I had the same issue you mention with Mastodon, so I continued to use Twitter/X, although reluctantly.
Bluesky looks for the moment like Twitter was before Musk purchased it.
I don't know, but I also hope that Bluesky has a similar free API to researchers as old time Twitter.
I speak for me. I have left X because I think it is not acceptable that the owner of a social network, that uses it to manipulate and generate hate and misinformation (OK "not yesterday"), becomes now a government official (in the US).
