There are plenty of people in my "dating pool" (is that really what you call gay men?) that i don't want to date. I think you should probably just grow a backbone if you're that affected by couple of extreme voices. The issue is in your head.

Break that down. "Our lives"? How is someone transitioning buying "our lives"? They're not, they're living their life. How does it impact you or me if someone else lives their life and tries to fit into society's structures in a way that's more comfortable for them?

Because I don't think it's true. I go to gay bars, clubs, even saunas occasionally and it's just not true. What people fought for was the right to love or sleep with who you want and we have that. Nobody is forcing you to fancy anyone you don't.

I am a gay man. Most of my friends are gay men. I don't hate gay men.

It would be a really niche thing to make up!

Don't remember seeing this Ravilious before. Back Gardens, 1935. Love the viewpoint and composition and the delicious English dampness.

Occasionally I wonder whether Jeremy Irons is relieved that, 11 years after gay marriages were introduced, his fear that fathers might marry their sons to avoid paying inheritance tax has largely proved unwarranted.

Just a few minutes stroll from home - thrilling music from the insultingly young George Johnson Quartet with good cheap vegan food. At the new-to-me-but-not-new Karamel N22.

How boring, tedious, conservative a person do you have to be to point and laugh at someone wearing makeup in the year 2025. I thought the terf position was do what you like just not in single sex spaces. Not conform everywhere. Doesn't make you want to delve into his writing does it.

Ah! Yes I love a museum, but I don't think they have a particularly British/English character, each is a very different thing, and the charms of rural churches and city pubs include that they are in every village/on every city block, to pop into for half an hour.

Oooh look, an article explaining the trashing of gay rights... by a straight guy.

Thank God for the straight white men tbh, how the hell would we know what to think without them?

(Read it if you want to, but it's nothing we've not read a thousand times before)

It's like the M&S thing: It's not enough that one customer was uncomfortable, complained and hence was politely offered bespoke assistance. No, M&S must change its policies in case someone else endures the trauma of being spoken to, briefly, in public, by someone who might be trans.

Country churches and city pubs are two of the loveliest, most special things in our nation. Aspirational communal architecture anyone can walk into. This is an appreciation post for country churches and city pubs.

Where's the accountability? The scrutiny? "Trust me" yeah no sorry if there are things you can't say, cope with people peacefully objecting. What an insane waste of resources. What bonkers priorities.

Police arrest 474 people at protest over Palestine Action ban in London Number of arrests was highest recorded in relation to single operation in at least past decade, according to Met police

This is utterly mad. Yvette Cooper needs to come out and say what she means by "Many people may not yet know the reality of [Palestine Action]" because you can't lock people up for objecting to them being proscribed terrorists if you won't say why.

Apparently I took this 20 years ago. Piccadilly Line. Felt like something you weren't meant to have seen.

I'm all for playing around with stuff but yeah my eyes really rolled when I saw this casting announcement, for the reasons you give and also for the off-the-peg obviousness of it. Side-note: years ago at Birmingham Rep I saw Bette Bourne in Present Laughter, in drag, and he was fab.

But the publisher seems to have lasted a decent while, because you see older illustrations and then very clearly 80s ones in the same sort of format.

The Scottish one (which is what started me hunting/collecting them has 1964 copyright but I think bought/written a couple of decades later. The cottage one looks 50s style but I suspect more like an 80s reprint (it hasn't arrived from the guy I'm buying it from yet).

Found this saucy postcard among some vintage theatre programmes I bought off Ebay from a woman who was clearing out her late brother's flat. Unstamped, but addressed to a Clive in Earls Court: "Thanks for an unexpectedly memorable weekend." Perhaps he forgot to post it, or changed his mind.

They should make a variety of tomato that has segments like a satsuma so you can put it in salads without the juice going everywhere

But yes absolutely. No system is perfect. Occasionally the wrong people will be convicted. So proper recompense must be built into that.

I don't know the rationale beyond the amounts but it feels like it's built on some crudely monetary idea of loss of potential earnings (hence the until very recently practice of deducting living expenses) rather than accounting for the hugely damaging broader deprivation and impact.

ยฃ1.3m is astonishingly low for someone who spent 17 years in prison, a cap that applies to anyone who lost over a decade of their life to jail after a wrongful conviction.
