You can also be a communist & recognize that while eventually the overthrow of capitalism is inevitable, realistically the best we can hope for within our lifetimes is social democratic reform in the US. Most US socialists today started with Bernie or AOC and moved left, they play an important role
It's not meaningless, it's just that the majority of political issues touch on the lives of working class people...because working class people comprise the vast majority of people. And because working class power is at the root of many other issues. There's a reason fascists are so anti-labor union

This is all/nothing reasoning. Some issues, like free child care and free public transportation, *disproportionately* impact the lives of people who work for wages. It's not meaningless to say that some issues affect working class people to a great degree and some to a lesser degree.
Historically, labor unions have been a locus of support & funding for progressive causes across the board. Not all unions at all times, but broadly they are important allies of progressive orgs of all stripes. Fascism opposes organized labor for a reason: worker power is a threat to the regime.
The stronger the labor union movement, the stronger worker power becomes, the stronger all other progressive movements tend to become...because labor unions historically support and bankroll them as well. A strong labor movement is absolutely essential to resisting fascist outcomes.
Labor unions were a reliable source of funding for the Democratic Party for most of the 20th century & helped ensure its success in the postwar period. Once labor union membership+ funding declined, Dems had to seek other funding sources, which led to unpopular neoliberal politics & the Trump regime

Making capitalists “pay their fair share into society” means all of it. They do not produce. They own. Their fair share is nothing. Labor is entitled to all it creates. It’s important we understand this.
