Now I’m 24 and I still beg “please someone check on me.” But like my mom, who never knew her baby was crying for her, no one hears me. And that immovable force still halts me in my tracks, my pleas never able to reach out.

I didn’t understand. Why did he stand there, cold and uncaring, no comfort given, was I not his baby? My mind couldn’t make sense of it. I don’t remember how that night ended, it’s a blur if I ever got to my mom or not.
