Going forward I reserve the right to take a hiatus from reviewing for journals where as a submitting author I've had a negative experience
(What makes all of this even more frustrating, although that is a different issue, is that this is a paper I really like, one of the stronger ones I think I've written. But I just don't seem to be able to get it placed. It's disheartening. Happy weekend to me, I guess)
Instead, what I get is a barrage of criticism thrown at me without being given the opportunity to respond.
I appreciate the reviewers' time, always. In some of their questions and comments I see merit. Others I disagree with. But I am not even given the chance to make my case
If you as an editor don't like the paper, fine. That's your prerogative. If your own reading of the paper is more negative and the first two reviewers are split, then just reject instead of inviting two more (still split 50/50) and keeping me waiting for months. Or desk reject!
Publications are one of the top currencies in academia, especially for folks in non-tenured positions
I checked with the journal multiple times because it was taking so long. That would have been their window to just reject rather than inviting a third and fourth reviewer and then rejecting anyway
A reject right before the weekend. How lovely. At least it took them only 7+ months to first decision *slow clap*

Es ist so wichtig, dass wir alle viel mehr davon sprechen, wie es sehr vielen Menschen in der Wissenschaft geht. In "belastbar" liegt "belastet", und es ist ziemlich seltsam, dass wir das so positiv konnotieren.

Ja, das stimmt! Wenn mich eine Stelle wirklich anspricht, werde ich es auch machen. Im Moment ist die Not (d.h. der Zeitdruck) aber noch nicht so groß, da kann ich immer noch auf den etwas besseren Fit warten
Angst macht mir die Idee inzwischen nicht mehr. Ich gucke aktiv außerhalb der Wissenschaft und bin auch bereit gewisse Abstriche zu machen. Aber ich sehe einfach sooo wenige Stellenausschreibungen, wo ich denke "OK, das könnte passen". Meist erfülle ich zentrale Anforderungen (Praxiserfahrung) nicht
Ich sitze in einem Zug, der eventuell kaputt ist. Am letzten Halt wurde die eine Seite untersucht, aber nichts gefunden. Am nächsten Halt wird dann die andere Seite untersucht 😅 Jedenfalls haben wir Verspätung
