But actually:

“Teen Girl Squad! Staring: Cheerleader!, What’s Her Face, So and So, THE UGLY ONE!!”

The Ugly One’s the best. The number of times I’ve had to hold in “THE UGLY ONE!!” so as to not seem like I’m actually calling anyone ugly… *tsk* *tsk*

The coolest dream I’ve ever had was probably inspired by this song, but I can’t tell anyone about the dream without them already knowing about the song…

To think of someone putting that *exact* level of effort into something that’s *marketed* as queer really sucks. I’m willing to hand wave a bit when someone’s doing accidental representation… but if it’s on purpose? 🤨👎🏻👎🏻 2/2

Honestly, of the characters I read as demi, very few are explicitly called that or even very intentionally done. Most of the time, I think it’s an author trying to subvert expectations with a M character who isn’t interested in sex until he gets to know the F lead. 1/2

Never fear! There’s a micro label for that! While I go with aro most of the time, gray aro is my actual label, bc my ability to catch feelings comes and goes with the wind. Granted, once I accepted that I was aro, I stopped having “crushes” (ie limerence), but it’s still possible!

My dad ordered the a “nothing but the hits” VHS set for us from TIME, and I suspect that they got rid of a lot of the nightmare fodder. I understood Beaker and Dr Honeydew before Bert and Ernie… though, I don’t *really* know what that means for my aroace self.

Did the explanation include the classic bit from Black Adder 3: The one about the rotten burrow?

It’s always good to be aroace, but it’s particularly nice on Valentine’s Day!

Thanks!! I’m really happy with it too. I got the sweater for Christmas, so I’ve been having fun exploring with it!

Woman with three feet of straight dark brown hair is sitting at a desk, with her legs pulled up onto her chair, smiling and looking over her right shoulder. She’s wearing a lavender wool turtleneck and raspberry calf-length wool skirt. Her necklace and lipstick match the color of her skirt. Not pictured: The red smoky eye she worked so hard to achieve, ‘cause her face is at the exact wrong angle. 🙄

The look after 5+ outfits changes (for a video). Aroaces do Valentines all the way up!

Definitely another ethical consideration to make when you’re reporting on a chronically under-served community. In this case, I think it’s more justified, as we need *something* to build from. It’s not the fault of an individual study (sort of) when it’s cited incorrectly.

…and for what? To point and laugh at these poor lonely people who have sad, unfulfilling lives? Part of a scientists’ ethics needs to consider, otherwise you get accused of being eugenics-adjacent behavior. 🙄

…answer satisfactorily to me. They suggest that there are actually very few people that go their whole lives without sex, so why are we spotlighting them here? Especially without humanizing them in some way (they literally called these people evolutionary dead ends 🤯)? It’s alienating these folks…

…One is a political identity and the other is a descriptor of behavior).

I suspect that these researchers are unaware that asexuality as an identity exists, which drastically limits their interpretation of what is ultimately correlational evidence. There is also a real “so what” that they don’t…

… but I want to validate people’s vibes that this isn’t a good faith portrayal of people who may or may not identify as ace (when presented with the opportunity to do so). It’s not. Queer affirming frames exist—this is not it (for ex: why are we conflating incels with people who don’t have sex?…

EQUALLY. The evolutionary explanation for queerness…

First of all, there is inherent problems with *any* interpretation, because the study is correlational (say it with us, “correlation is not causation”).

This means the study is *incredibly* surface level. This is maybe my bias showing, but, realistically, we know little about the hows and the whys…

I consider it our floor—lots of queer identities have the 1% estimation where there’s no social acceptance of the identity in question.
