if'n ya are interested in the actually decent but old original trilogy (Marathon, Marathon 2: Durandal, Marathon: Infinity), all seem to be free on Steam under the title 'Classic Marathon' and they should run on a potato

the thing that killed any interest in the game for me was the whole stolen art thing (supposedly a former employee 'borrowed' a bunch of art from a very dedicated fan of the series without permission and it was a building block of the aesthetic)

it was resolved but still leaves a bad taste

the entire dev timeline of that game has been problem after problem after problem (all of them caused by themselves), and they're apparently now asking reviewers to hold off on giving a review until later, which is giving huge 'we shouldn't have released the game it's far from complete' vibes

i remember very few dreams so the details of this one in particular sticking made it notable, especially cause it hasn't faded much

certain events in it that were at the time considered impossible to occur, have already happened or started irl and it's increasingly uncomfortable
