I guess it also depends if they're connected or not, if not connected you can select the main object, hit ctrl+L, invert, and delete.
if connected, could try to select by loose geometry, but don't think that'd work here
I don't know a clean way, but what I'd do is if most of the vertices are inside the main body I'd separate out that section as it's own object, select edit mode, then with x-ray off use cursor in select box mode and select every visible vertices from all perspectives, invert, and delete
