Landscape ecological restoration. It can be done but we need to get a move on. This is Carrifran where the sheep were removed to allow this native woodland to take over.

An abstract watercolor with swooshy brushtrokes in blue, teal, and Daniel Smith's "Moonglow" which is a sort of Payne's Gray, only using lavender rather than blue. While it was still damp, I went in with Derwent Inktense water soluble pencils to create the angled lines.

In my class, we do a warmup called a 10-stroke painting: only 10 brushstrokes, using 2 colors & a neutral. I enjoy pausing to tyr to hear what the #Painting needs prior to each stroke. This is one I did at home, with colored pencil added at the end (cheating I know). #ArtYear #Watercolor #Abstract

Today I learnt:

The John Snow Pub on Broadwick Street in Soho, London was renamed as such in May 1955 to mark 100 years since the publication of Snow's masterpiece 'On the Communication of Cholera - Second Edition'.

The name change and new sign was unveiled by a certain Sir Austin Bradford Hill.

If I'm doing on my own for myself, then I can do it and trust it: it's on me. But when I'm collaborating I find I'm second guessing what others want and I regress: I lack confidence within and without the group. How to escape this?

36 years ago today, the Pale Blue Dot picture was taken by Voyager 1, from an unprecedented distance of over 6 billion kilometers (3.7 billion miles, 40.5 AU).
The Earth appears as less than a pixel; just a tiny dot against the vastness of space, among bands of sunlight refracted by the camera lens.

A four panel comic, from left to right:

1960s
LIFE IS BASED ON DNA, WHICH USES RNA TO MAKE PROTEINS THAT DO STUFF.

1980s
ALSO, THE RNA DOES SOME STUFF ITSELF, WHICH IS WEIRD.

2000s
THERE ARE 50
MANY KINDS OF RNA. IT'S DOING SO MUCH STUFF!

2020s
LIFE IS A SEETHING MASS OF RNA THAT SOMETIMES USES DNA TO TAKE NOTES.

WHAT DO THE PROTEINS DO?
ERRANDS FOR RNA.

It’s an RNA world. RNA is posited to be the first genetic material, arising 4 billion years ago. It can store information and act as an enzyme. Eventually, it duplicated its information into a more stable form, DNA.

You’ve got no time at all, but it seems like you’ve got forever...
You’ve got forever; and somehow you can’t do much with it. You’ve got forever; and it’s a mile wide and an inch deep and full of alligators.

Ireland announces scheme to provide basic income for artists The Basic Income for Artists (BIA) project is believed to be the first permanent one of its kind in the world.

After a trial over the last few years, Ireland has launched a permanent scheme giving a basic income of €325 a week for artists.

2,000 will be eligible, and successful recipients will be chosen at random from applicants, who must be "professional artists" (definition tbc).
