I want to live in a world with more people who have deep love and reverance for the land and our living kin. As a conservation educator I hope I can guide some young minds the same way my parents guided mine. Grateful for my earthy pals.

A Temari ball once owned by Zen priest RyΕkan, who carried it in his pocket at all times, ready to play with children whenever the moment arose. Japan, Edo period, 1758-1831. Temari originated in China and was later introduced to Japan, where it became a popular folk art. Historically, these ornamental balls were made from leftover threads and fabric scraps and served as toys. However, over time, temari evolved into an intricate form of decorative art, often associated with good luck and given as gifts on special occasions.

Text reads: Chronic pain can be oddly isolating Art depicts Holly bear with Xray like cross-sections, looking concerned
Text reads: Obviously hurting all the time sucks, but there are some compounding social issues alongside that. Art depicts: Bears playing and doing physical activities while Holly bear bends over, sighing and rubbing her sore back
Text reads: It can be hard to understand if you've never had a chronic affliction that there is no 'getting better' for a lot of us. Decreasing how much it hurts from an 8 to a 3 is the best we can do sometimes. Art depicts: A thoughtful friendbear says "I hope you get well soon!" to a rueful Holly bear who thanks them and rubs her RSI wrist.
Text reads: Compassion fatigue is present even among loving family members. Let alone friends and coworkers. To the point where we don't even mention it unless prompted, even if struggling. Art depicts: A friendly bear asks "How's it goin?" Holly bear looking worn out replies "Oh you know... keeping on keeping on"

I first learnt my stitches when I was around 10, maybe earlier.
My Mennonite grandma taught me and my first creation was a handmade doll with a very asymmetrical face. I am not a trained artist and I am forever grateful for that lack of discipline. Embroidery has allowed me to decorate the mundane.

Massive caves in Kenya weren't formed geologically, instead created by elephants seeking salt, breaking up rocks with their tusks and licking away the cavern walls. π§ͺ

About: stories, woven between people. How they grow, change, evolve and serve us.
Those who know me know that my cultural heritage, like so many, is incredibly mixed. That being said the most prominent cultures in my background that have influenced my art growing up are Mennonite, Italian, and French Canadian.

As a big fan of folk art, be it textiles and whatnot, Iβll be sharing that on this page along with my own creations.
I love folk art so much because itβs steeped in story, and man do I love a good story.

Itβs like looking into the universe. Pretty wild and humbling experience thatβs for sure!
Currently living in Aotearoa/NZ that has no native mammalian predators (although now, many many introduced). It also has the famous Tuatara that thrived during the Jurassic era and are still around today (Iβve had the honour of holding one as well as releasing them into the wild).
