I had a mate Ben who bragged about being the original “Benjamin” in WoW. No 1s, no 3s, just Benjamin. I’ve never seen anyone so proud

Some people want to meet their favourite actor or pop idol. I just want to meet the former finance minister of Greece

But I'll continue to do it. From the very beginning of Pixel a Day the aim was always to put something into the world that is special, high-quality and uniquely mine. If I were to start using GenAI to cut corners and remove that personal touch, I may as well shut the whole channel down.
I like to think that these magical little moments are appreciated by my audience. I don't know if they are. I certainly don't think a casual YT viewer will ever understand how much love, time, sweat and tears go into making these videos.
Hours of tedious work was put in for that moment, and it was worth it. You cannot rush this process, or outsource it to AI. It only comes from putting substantial amounts of your own time and energy getting up close and personal with the material. So even that could not be replaced.
...I find incredible resonances that make for an absolutely magical moment. In my Outer Wilds video, for example, I stumbled upon this quote while scrubbing through footage - "The universe is, and we are" - which provided a perfect echo to a clip I'd played earlier from Alone: "Nature just is."
But even there, scrubbing through clips is an important part of the creative process and I wouldn't give it up. Believe it or not, every video I make I scrub through every single second of recorded footage I have - dozens of hours' worth. It mostly yields nothing, but occasionally...
It's honestly difficult to think of anything that GenAI could usefully do for me re: the channel. The closest thing would be video editing I guess. Finding and inserting clips can be fairly boring, and theoretically AI that could do that might save time on what is largely "drudge" work -
I guess I'll leave the possibility open that there might be some tiny task that GenAI would save me a lot of time on, like editing an image or something, in which case I'd disclose that - but essentially you can safely expect that there will be no GenAI used in any Pixel a Day work. (3/3)
Having an idea and fully exploring it (the essence of my channel) involves a level of originality and personal expression that GenAI can and will never achieve, so GenAI is fundamentally useless to me there. Moreover, I enjoy the creative process. If I didn't there'd be no channel. (2/3)
I suppose now is as good a time as any to clarify this, but I've never used GenAI for any Pixel a Day videos or articles, in any capacity. I am a much better writer than ChatGPT is, and there is nothing it could do to help me with the process of coming up with a video idea. (1/3)
Very cool! If you're ever in need of guests, I do games writing on Medium (kat-pixeladay.medium.com) and freelance (e.g., uppercutcrit.com/pink-squiggl...) and I talk good about games as well (youtube.com/pixeladay)

We're hitting the streets today to protest this POS and our prime minister's baffling decision to cozy up to war criminals
Finally got round to watching @pixeladay.bsky.social's video on Blue Prince. Really good, comprehensive portrait of one person's attempt to make sense of a fascinating and often brilliant game that nonetheless has kinda bad puzzle design

Context may help here... the original post is referring to Hasan, who criticised Kamala but did vote for her. He didn't abstain, he did the harm reduction thing (hold your nose and vote for the lesser of two evils). The poster is still not happy because he criticised her.
Being even slightly better than the other guy means you can't be criticised. If the other guy makes a policy to eat 1000 faces, make a policy to eat 999 faces and you're good
If you criticise both major parties for hurtling to the right it's somehow your fault the country ended up hurtling to the right
Already can't wait for the @skipintroyt.bsky.social ep on this
I mean look at all these rave reviews coming in
Final bump for my new video. What does Mouthwashing feel like to play, what makes it creatively unique, what does it have to say about abuse and complicity, and what on Earth does a company mascot have to do with any of it??
Just watching the tennis and realising that the Kazakhstan flag reminds me of the colour palette of In Other Waters and I like that
I can see by the lack of reposts that either no one here has seen the film or no one agrees with me
As an OG fan of the 28...Later films ever since I saw 28 Days Later in the cinema as a 14 year old and it ruined me, it makes me very happy that the franchise is still thriving and doing cool stuff, that said Bone Temple is not as good as the previous one and everyone saying that is tripping
Imagine how bad the Internet Brain has to be to not realise 30,000 is actually a large number of people
