Infrequent reminder there's no singular way to do this writing thing, save to WRITE. I've written feverishly my entire life, first with fanzines, then stories, then novels. My first novel came out when I was 40. Degree? No. Joyous participant in writer's groups? Yes. But mostly, I wrote my ass off.
