Why now is the time to be loudly anti-war
We don't need the clarity of hindsight to know war in Iran—or anywhere—will end in physical, moral and financial ruin.
“Much like it’s taken some journalists years to admit that Donald Trump is indeed a fascist, so will others wait until we’re weeks, months or years into a war with Iran to say this needs to end. What would happen if, instead of waiting to see how this all plays out, we just say no, here and now?”

Before Alaska Flooding, E.P.A. Canceled $20 Million Flood Protection Grant
The Alaska Native village of Kipnuk was due to receive a $20M grant from the EPA that they were going to use for flood protection.
It was labelled “wasteful DEI spending” and canceled.
The recent storm destroyed homes & flooded Kipnuk: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/14/c...

Overlooking a pool of stunning blue water.
Finally did the Tamolitch Blue Pool hike. It was more technical than I expected, and less crowded, which was nice. Since the advent of social media, this spot has become a management issue, but no outrageous incidents during my visit (other than folks not carrying water on a 90F degree day).

I will be damned if I allow a bunch of Confederate-waving January 6th apologists give the American people a lecture on flag waving.
There is ZERO reason to enter an argument about patriotism with people who still worship traitors to America 150+ years later.

ICE was created post 9/11 to combat terrorist threats. If they aren't combatting the number one terror threat to America - Domestic Violent Extremism and white supremacists - then they don't need to exist as an agency.

Career planning in an era of scientific disinvestment
Know not just the destination and the route, but all the other features on the map
In a time when support for junior scientists is disappearing, how can you plan for a career in STEM? I think it starts by thinking of science as a big map with many routes and destinations, instead of a pipeline. 🧪
