The housing emergency is holding too many women back.
Women are sleeping rough in rising numbers, and thousands more are stuck homeless in damaging temporary accommodation - including with children.
The UN: Stop prioritising building for the ultra-rich. Start building much more social housing.
We couldn’t agree more.

Councils want to build. Communities need homes.
So what’s getting in the way?
If you have evidence, experience or expertise in council housing, we want to hear from you. The APPG on Council & Social Housing is calling for written evidence on the barriers to delivering council housing.
Great to hear 🙌
It's something we're talking about internally at the moment. There will probably be similar posts coming out down the line, but we're always evaluating what's the best approach.
Thanks for featuring us and for writing about this important area.
Is it job done? No, we don't think it's enough and there's still no clear road map to delivering 90,000 social rent homes per year. But just for today: Great news.
Today is a big moment when it comes to building the social homes we need. £39billion over 10 years is hugely significant after decades of underinvestment. A huge thanks to everyone who helped make this happen...
The conversation about housing is all wrong.
For decades, governments haven’t built enough social homes. People are struggling. Yet refugees get blamed.
Our new video flips the narrative and focuses on the real issue.
Watch it. Share it. Let’s change the conversation.
Ever wondered why building more private homes hasn’t fixed the housing emergency? 💭
❌ We’ve been relying on 'trickle down' housing for decades. It hasn’t worked.
✔️ Prioritising social housing delivery would work.

Monday reminder: change doesn’t just happen. We build it brick by brick together ❤️
You are most welcome! So kind of you to get in touch ☺️
Can you inherit a council tenancy?
You might have the right to take over a council tenancy if you're a relative who lived with the tenant.
Use our checker to find out if you can succeed to a council tenancy. And ask your council or housing association for their policy on succession.
Racism can be obvious or harder to recognise, but one thing we know is that it is widespread in the housing system.
Our new page goes into the detail:

The housing emergency affects people across the whole of society, but we know that People of Colour ─ particularly Black communities ─ are hit hardest.
🎙️ Thank you again to @kwajo.bsky.social for leading this important discussion.
That’s why we're campaigning for a fairer housing system for everyone ─ one free from racism and discrimination.

The housing emergency is having a huge impact across the whole of society, but Black people and other People of Colour are even more likely to be homeless.
This shouldn't be accepted.
🚨New report out today.🚨
If we want fewer families facing homelessness, we need to be honest about what works... and what doesn’t.
Our new report looks at the evidence behind housing policy and why social housing is key to ending the housing emergency. 🗝️

Government must back councils to build again and commit to delivering the social rent homes needed to end the housing emergency. 🏠 www.telegraph.co.uk/business/202...
Image shows a graph titled '300k new homes a year is only possible with significant council housebuilding' highlighting the decline of permanent dwellings completed in England since 1946.
There are a lot of headlines today about housebuilding slumping and questions over the government’s 1.5 million homes target.
The data shows that private housebuilding is slowing. But history is clear: we only hit 300,000 homes a year when councils built at scale.
What is Homelessness?
Understanding what homelessness really means is the first step to ending it.
Fight racism in our housing system
With the far right on the rise and divisions being provoked, it's more important than ever that we stand up for everyone's right to a safe and secure home.
We firmly believe that the #FightForHome is also a fight against racism.
Let's stand together to take action.
It's time to act – let’s kick racism out of social housing.
Right now, the Regulator of Social Housing is consulting on changes which could help tackle racism in our housing system.
🚨 But hurry! You only have until 3 March to have your say: shltr.org.uk/efWe6

Temporary homeless housing should be suitable for you and your family.
It should be:
➡️safe
➡️affordable
➡️near enough to travel to work and school
If it’s not and you have a low income or claim benefits, you can get free legal help to challenge the council.
