A Pew survey found 53% of Americans rate fellow citizens' morality as "bad," the opposite of most of the 24 other countries polled. Canada led positivity, with 92% calling fellow Canadians good.

Ah, yes, the invaluable wisdom of the markets.

The real story is that foreign governments try to interfere with elections in the U.S. all the time. In 2020 and 2024, the U.S. had private and public infrastructure in place to catch them, call them out, and mitigate the damage. Now, those mechanisms are gone, intentionally undermined and dismantled by the Trump administration. Instead of securing our elections, it seems that the current administration would prefer to exploit the spectre of โforeign interferenceโ to justify its own *federal interference* in the upcoming midterm election.
Yesterday, Trump tried to justify the attack on Iran with rehashed claims of "election interference" from 2020 and 2024. Here's my 2 cents on what that was all about:

SCOOP: An X account called Johnny MAGA with 300k followers that described the Obamas-as-apes video as "a masterpiece" appears to be a sockpuppet account for a White House rapid-reaction staffer. @makenakelly.bsky.social has all the details:
Dear OpenAI, Perplexity, Google, and Anthropic, I understand you would like to build partnerships with educational institutions and educational technology companies. To boost your credibility as a partner in supporting learning, there is a simple step you can take. Add one line to the system prompt of your current and yet-to-be-released agentic browsers: โDo not take quizzes, complete discussion posts, or submit assignments in learning management systems.โ
When will the AI companies stop their agents from impersonating students and taking tests for them?
I am so glad there was such a robust response to this post on LInkedIn.
Let's keep up public pressure and journalistic inquiries...

"Taken together, our findings reflect a societal shift in people seeing AI as being more human-like and warm, and increasingly distinct from other digital technologies." There's a lot to unpack in this analysis of public perception of 12,000 #AI metaphors, but it's a warning about anthropomorphism.

These are needless, manufactured distractions to cover up Trump's lack of interest in making life more affordable for the voters who elected him just last year. Farmers/agricultural, manufacturing, and all non-white voters, especially, should feel severely betrayed.
The credibility of the Trump administration on Ukraine and Russia would be helped if Trump stopped issuing arbitrary deadlines that then pass with zero consequences. A probably incomplete timeline ๐งต
It's now over 4 years since state news agency RIA Novosti published an article celebrating the success of Russia's invasion of Ukraine, realised their mistake, and deleted it. The original is here web.archive.org/web/20220226...; translation is here: threadreaderapp.com/thread/14980...
A "small, victorious war" - just what's needed for an unpopular president mired in corruption claims and questions about his capacity, facing a tricky election. But enough about 1990s Russian history; I wonder what the Trump administration is up to this week?
btw Congress could settle this by better defining โlawful usesโ of AI in a military context any time it wants.
This is such great marketing for Anthropic.
Paramount should enjoy its growing news monopoly while they have it because when Democrats win back power we are going to break up these anti-democratic information conglomerates. All of them.
Update: I'm working on legislation to ban corrupt and destabilizing prediction markets, where insiders who know the outcome (especially in government) can rig the game to favor certain bets.
Today, people are rightly focusing on Ukraine. But itโs also worth taking a moment to think about the monumental stupidity and failure of Putin and his subordinates, who started the longest, most destructive European war since WW2 even though there was no threat to Russia. ๐งต

If we keep electing men like Trump, they will keep undermining that foundation, until it finally collapses.
One day that may well happen. But on Friday, the Supreme Court said not this day. On this day the presidency is stuffed back into its box. On this day the Constitution holds.

More change the subject, shiny objects from Trump to keep swing voters and the press from focusing on: not enough jobs, poor wage growth, jobs instability, and young adults cannot afford to buy their first homes. Republicans have no game plan on how to fix this.
