Hard to know what to say anymore. An entire news team of five journalists. Doing their job in a tent for journalists. Killed by the IDF, who refuse to allow international journalists into Gaza. Outrageous and horrific.
Hello Cambridge Ward, hereβs just some of what I got up to in July. A busy one seeing as I was abroad for a week! #Southport
The world is looking on in horror as Netanyahu's Government plots to lock Gaza's entire population into effectively a giant prison.
The Prime Minister should make it clear that the UK won't stand idly by, starting by sanctioning Netanyahu himself.
My thoughts for the Telegraph today on why we need to do more to help younger people not end up as renters in retirement- including looking at controversial ideas such as early access to pension pots for deposits⦠www.telegraph.co.uk/money/proper...
July, the Seaside, 1943, painting by L.S. Lowry (Arts Council Collection, Southbank Centre). #NorthernArt
A really moving tribute from our LFC correspondent @ptgorst.bsky.social that shows exactly why Diogo Jota was so adored in this city. RIP.
Wonderful community vibes today at the annual #BotanicGardens fun day. Well done to the organisers on another fab event π
#Southportpier mentioned by the Chancellor as being a beneficiary of funding from a new "growth fund" in today's spending review ! Let's hope it's more than a fiver towards repairs!!!
π hereβs some of what I got up to on the Council and in the community in May.
Cambridge Ward Southport Liberal Democrat Councillors Leo Evans and I are calling on @seftoncouncil.bsky.social to implement a safer pedestrian crossing here outside Hesketh Park. You only get 5 seconds to cross!!!

@gralefrit.bsky.social absolutely gripped by your podcast π it's brilliant
Victim-survivor mothers are often told to 'get over' the abuse post-separation, 'move on', and 'be nice' when, in fact, the perpetrator is still actively abusing them and their children.
It is deeply unfair and unjust.

I feel sorry for the train managers being the fall guys and having to make announcements like "soz you all have to stand, it's because 4 of the train carriages are broken and so we only have 3. Oh, and also we are running about half an hour late. Thank you!" #trainlife #alwayssomewhereinthemidlands
Your tariff rate is your star sign divided by the number of boys you've kissed, multiplied by one
Looking forward to reading this book - a much needed expose of the archaic attitudes of the family courts
There shouldn't be presumption of contact for domestic abusers. The rights of people that can physically, financially and mentally abuse those who are meant to be closest to them should never trump the rights of innocent children who need stability
The first episode of my new Radio 4 series, Untaxing, is 1.45pm today; then the same time every day this week. Available on BBC Sounds as soon as each episode airs.

Wonderful to see @evertonfc.com endorsing my dad's new documentary about the legendary goalscorer Dixie Dean, who deserves more of a spotlight on his amazing life, career and place in Mersey history π www.evertonfc.com/news/2025/ma...
You can sign our open letter to the Prime Minister, calling on the government to commit to invest in the protection of children and young survivors by investing in domestic abuse services and introducing a children and young people (CYP) support fund: takeaction.womensaid.org.uk/openletter
After Monument a crazy MEP but subsequent jobs much more peaceful, even bordering on normal. Thanks for the memory π€£ x
Ha ha ha ha π I can't breathe. Oh, the bloody memories Matt!
Coercive Control has been a crime for a decade, so very late for this. With @jessphillipsmp.bsky.social in govt I know we will see lots of welcome change. Information sharing good step, but training in CC for police, social services & judiciary desperately needed

Was amazing to see so much strength of feeling about our pier at today's meeting. People of all ages and all political parties united in their desire to get a viable plan to see Southport pier re-opened. Let's see what we can do...

Good news that there are plans from @seftoncouncil.bsky.social to stem flooding in #Crossens, just need to make sure that residents voices are heard when it comes to the detail

There are some stories which no matter how obvious, how inevitable under current systems, still create a visceral reaction.
We have rising levels of poverty and homelessness, including among children. This should be a far bigger focus for government investment. #r4today

Light desperately needs to be shone on needlessly long, emotionally & financially devastating cost of FC proceedings, underhand actions of some solicitors & barristers & failure of Judges to spot abuse.
For a system meant to be child focused, it falls woefully short
