The Minotaur beetle, primarily found in heathlands and unimproved pastures, play a crucial role in maintaining healthy ecosystems by burying dung, which aerates the soil and adds organic material. This improves soil structure, enhances water retention and provides essential nutrients for plants.

Grey Field Slug (Deroceras reticulatum) on pond liner.
Are you keeping dry this winter?
Wet weather is not only an iconic characteristic of Great Britain but is great for survival and reproduction in Grey Field Slugs. Hatchlings can cause significant damage to crops but can be managed by preserving their natural enemy habitat.

Red admirals can hang around until as late as Nov - some will even remain for the winter. In Sept they are still happily on the wing.
Hedgerow & fallen fruit is a great source of food during the autumn. Leaving ivy to flower also provides a good source of nectar when little else is flowering
