Expert-ness is a craft/ art form. My art & my scientific expertise were cultivated in the same way. What I understand about the world scientifically is nuanced & not the same as wiki 'facts' an AI can give you. We should value things that humans put blood, sweat, & years of tears and practice into.

Imo this is literally the main reason. I will move anywhere for a tenured job. Literally below this post in my feed is a postdoc call for 33 months in another country. Try to buy a home or car with savings, debt, or deceased family inheritance, learn a new language and then literally give it all up!

I have the resilience that only comes from nearly dying being an alcoholic and addict. I am now 16 years clean & sober. Immense amount of work to not only NOT die but thrive.
I then stayed because of my passion for learning and not because I was expected to, pressured to by parents, or thought that's what I have to do to get a job. Grades and degrees were secondary. Knowledge and connection was paramount.
I have the depth and appreciation for science and education that only comes after dropping out of college as a misguided youth, to later joyfully go back out my own accord and pay to retake every class- because I wanted to learn about evolution because I wasn't allowed to as a child.
Instead, I will illustrate the level I bring to often thrown around terms- with my lived experience.
I have the tenacity that drives someone to travel 3 hours one way to attend their classes in NYC and then teach at Brooklyn college. I did 2-3 hours, each way 4-5 days a week for over 2 years.
This is exceptional for someone so young.

I literally looked up "biological population misunderstood anthropology" the other day for a presentation I had in Thursday and settled on some classic choices including Mayr but I wish I had this!!
