My next project is this Holbein sketch of a young woman who some believe may be Anne Boleyn. As I am drawing the outlines of her face on to my canvas I am starting to feel the similarities between them, in the shape of the nose and outline of the cheeks.
So I concede, this could be a younger Anne.

Just embrace the ones that love you, and I am sure there are many.

My finished portraits of Queen Anne Boleyn, 2nd wife of King Henry VIII of England. One of the most well known Tudor royals.
Based on a 500 year old sketch by Hans Holbein.
I really love medieval history and Anne Boleyn is one of my heroines.
She was unfairly executed for adultery in 1536. #tudors

I have now completed my chalk pastel version of the Queen Anne Boleyn Windsor sketch by Holbein.
The portrait in the left is my first portrait of her in oils.
I played around with the backgrounds in both and was able to use artistic license for her clothing.

I think she would be fascinated, sometimes flattered, sometimes confused.
The one thing that bugs me the most is how often the women are portrayed with their hair down and uncovered.
This wasn’t commonplace at all, and was only done at weddings and the Queens coronation if I remember correctly.

Henry VIII gifted Anne Boleyn a dressing gown in 1532 made of black satin and trimmed with velvet which took more than twelve yards of material, highlighting Henry's extravagant spending on her.

And now for the fur on her arms.
I have chosen to paint sable which was reserved for nobility.
