I think there are two cases where I see original decks at something like an RCQ:
- They took a deck and modified it for the metagame
- They like to be unique and play something different

I was going to play Elementals but switched to Merfolk at the last minute (splashing the Elemental Command) and that was the right choice. I haven't pre-ordered anything but Microcenter is down the street and will have everything on Friday.
How was the pre-release? Sam and I both managed to go 3-0, he played Kithkin and I played Merfolk. Sounded like most local stores sold out of their events.
