Some really good resources I've been studying from on and off the past couple of months. Need a dedicated month just painting though; I really struggle with color
Pretty old painting study that I kinda hate now. Just way too many messy strokes and not enough focus on capturing big shapes. Also way too much contrast on the face, but the overall readable values are the only saving grace.
Quick hand study. The focus was on capturing the overall form through the gesture of the fingers. Didn't do a very good job tbh
Was mostly focused on perspective and not proportion or anatomy, but I think I did alright, except for bad forms on some of them
Metal study. Was fun, but a lot left to learn
Old study
Old sketch
Quick warmup sketches. How does the rib cage work...help
His touch-ups help, A LOT, but I need so much more work lol
Some studies before and after help/advice from tutor
Some thumbnails that I never bothered to render. Top right and bottom left are a lot more abstract, and I wanted to mess around with color first and then render while correctly value...but I never got to rendering any of them. Top left has weak rhythm , so I need more practice on gesture
Getting better in some ways and worse in others. Dark values still not dark enough, but I have cleaner harder edges compared to the top left,t which was a month ago
Couple of value distillation studies. Trying to improve on my eye for value, color, and shape langauge
Values need work, but mostly struggling with proportion. Decent study
Shape study
Values are still off and need better edge control
These books have also been very helpful. Rockhe Kim's teachings are very perspective heavy, which helps me as it's the easist fundamental for me to understand.
Tom Fox also breaks down planar aspects of form in perspective, akin to sculpting the body in 3D space. Both great study materials
Will be using these to accompany learning muscle groups and anatomy in Hide's anatomy course
Was supposed to be doing cylinder studies and got carried away
Need practice on cylinders in perspective. Understanding the curves of the spine a little more.
Changing the pen has allowed for better communication of line weight on my gestures
Better line confidence and better with ellipses just in the past month. DrawABox and Peter Han's course made the traditional to digital transition easier
I'll just post my practice or drills occasionally here. Should serve as a decent reminder in a year for any improvement in my art journey
