We can't build superintelligence just for superintelligence's sake. It's got to be for humanity's sake, for a future we actually want to live in. It's not going to be a better world if we lose control of it.
We can't build superintelligence just for superintelligence's sake. It's got to be for humanity's sake, for a future we actually want to live in. It's not going to be a better world if we lose control of it.
It shouldn't be controversial to say AI should always remain in human control - that we humans should remain at the top of the food chain. That means we need to start getting serious about guardrails, now, before superintelligence is too advanced for us to impose them.
The most consequential question for our time is not whether AI will surpass us. It is whether we can shape AI to advance human flourishing rather than undermine it, @mustafasuleymanai.bsky.social writes. bit.ly/4oyKM48
Humanist, applied - this is the superintelligence I believe the world wants. Itβs the superintelligence I want to build. And itβs what weβre going to build on MAIβs Superintelligence Team.

Underrated: AI that knows when to forget, not just remember. That's why we've updated Copilot memory to follow directions for both - and you can check + edit its memories any time under settings > manage memory. Live now in Windows, web + mobile.
For so long, personalized tutoring like this was only accessible for a lucky few. Now, it's finally available for everyone.
Study and learn mode + quizzes are out now in all Copilot countries and languages, on web and mobile apps.
Both study and learn mode chats + quizzes are sharable. So once you finally understand supply and demand curves, you can send that explanation or quiz to your study group too.
You can generate and take personalized Quizzes right in chat. Get as specific as you want + even tell it "don't forget to ask me about XYZ." After it's scored, you can go back + see explanations for any q's you missed. Then you can prompt Copilot to make the next one easier or harder.
Study and learn mode will help you learn the answer, step by step, asking questions to test understanding before moving on. Something just not clicking? You can ask for different explanations or angles as many times as you need
Just getting answers is easy. Understanding them? That's harder. That's why I'm excited Study and learn mode + Quizzes are live now in Copilot, giving every student a tutor in their pocket π§΅

Still rolling out, so some users may not see it right away. This is very much a prototype to help us learn more about how people feel talking to an AI - if you try it out, please send us your feedback! copilot.microsoft.com/labs
Collage of 8 different animated portraits, showing smiling faces of different genders and races. The animation styles are slightly different, from 3D cartoon to flat illustration.
You can now talk to a Copilot Portrait in real-time! Weβve heard from some users that they'd feel more comfortable talking to a face when using voice. So in the US, UK + Canada, weβre rolling out a new Copilot Labs experiment where you can talk with animated portraits.
in my Notepad π newsletter this week, I speak to Microsoft's AI CEO on the future of the browser. Microsoft isnβt building a new AI browser, but it wants Copilot to browse the web for you. Live now for subscribers π www.theverge.com/tech/783795/...
You asked, we shipped! Scripted mode just dropped for audio generation in Copilot Labs (c/o our new MAI-Voice-1 model).
Scripted mode: reads your input verbatim
Emotive: riffs a bit for max drama
Story: performs multiple voices/characters

Line chart showing the capability frontier increased performance 176% while cost dropped 93%. It also shows a Low Cost/Performance Frontier, that increased performance 119% while cost dropped 99.7%. Graph axes are GPQA Diamond Score and cost per million tokens ($) [log scale]
Not sure how many people would have taken the bet 2 years ago that by now frontier models would be over 90% cheaper but 2.7x better. Today it's simple fact. The tech gains are cool, but it's the leap forward in access that makes it meaningful. (graph: @emollick.bsky.social)
Try them out and send your feedback - we want to learn more about where they're performing well and how we can make them better. More detail on the blog today if you want to deep dive: microsoft.ai/news/two-new...
