Congrats to @bucklr01.bsky.social on being selected as a finalist in the NASW Science in Society Journalism Awards, for her piece "Brains, biases and amyloid beta: Why the female brain deserves a closer look in Alzheimerβs research"! www.nasw.org/article/anno...
I was fortunate enough to be interviewed by the Karen Toffler Charitable Trust on their Research Renaissance podcast! I talk about sex differences in Alzheimer's disease risk and optimizing women's brain health.

Our new paper is out!
We find that Sex Hormone Binding Globulin (but interestingly not estradiol or testosterone) shows sex specific associations with tau-PET burden in the Framingham Heart Study. In men, it seems to be protective (higher SHBG = lower tau)

We now have a blood biomarker that is even more strongly associated with tau PET and cognitive symptoms than even p-tau217! Plasma eMTBR-tau243 will help us to understand whether cognitive impairment is likely to be related to Alzheimer's pathology. #ENDALZ

It is an honor to be counted amongst these amazing scientists in this piece, and a privilege to be able to do this incredible work

My first science post here on BlueSky is a long one. Setting the contrarian tone from the very beginning, I take strong issue with the recent op-ed by Charles Piller published in the January 24th NY Times on #Alzheimer's disease (nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com?url=https%3A...)
I can confirm this is a great crew...join us!!
