Brother: welcome to the Mc Pack (McElwee is pronounced MAC-elwee so the name does rhyme).

Six O'Clock News. Bright Leaves. Time Indefinite. Charleen?!? You have just enough time to consume his entire body of work to have the maximally crushing experience of Remake when it hits theaters.

Ramon had a 6.13 ERA over 27 starts in 2000

If you average him with 2000 Pedro you get a 3.37 ERA guy with a 1.07 WHIP

That guy would have been the second best pitcher in the AL that year!!

Ramon was the #2 starter in 2000 and they let him spend the entire season getting absolutely rocked presumably because they didn't want to disrupt the insane shit Pedro was doing

Hernandez had been in office for three months and is not in the top 1000 people responsible for the existence of La Sombrita. There are many electeds on that list though!

It was entirely developed by a department overseen by the mayor’s office that has a disastrous legacy of failed street safety interventions and loses funding every year. Guess it’s not odd because electeds are shiny objects but you would hope more people would have some bureaucratic literacy

Right but you said she held it. My guess is she had never even seen it before the event. Bit odd how this thing she showed up to the installation of and had nothing else to do with has been attributed to her imo

She didn’t hold it, she was invited by DOT and was unfortunate enough to be near it in a picture

The question nobody is going on TV about Was the LA Fire Department underfunded, underdeployed, or something else we'll never know?

LA leaders have said the fires could have been prevented if LAFD hadn't been defunded.

But also: new reports say LAFD kept dozens of trucks and 1,000 firefighters off duty during the high winds.

What really happened? You might never find out. Sorry!

There Are Nearly 10,000 Vacant City Jobs In LA. What's Causing The Shortfall? The upshot: β€œCity services are slower,” says L.A. Mayor Karen Bass.

All great questions with very complicated answers. Inmate firefighters don't staff LAFD, but the City of LA (and a lot of other big cities) have had personnel deficits across the board. It's a big problem! laist.com/news/politic...

Not going to be able to keep replying, but this was all true for LAPD as well. Fewer funded positions, but an overall large budget increase because of higher salaries. That is an issue of its own. But the same process played out for both departments and one didn't pay for the other.

09.01.2025 16:13 πŸ‘ 19 πŸ” 2 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 1

LAPD also had vacant positions go unfunded because they, like LAFD, have not been able to hire up to their budgeted staff. deptvacancies.lacontroller.app

Like I said, the Councilmember I worked with voted No and didn't support the PD raises. But money was not taken from LAFD and given to them.

Hundreds of vacant officer positions also went unfunded in the police budget, even if they still had hiring authority. FD and PD were treated exactly the same: some vacant positions went unfunded but salary increases led to proportionately large departmental budget increases for both.

08.01.2025 22:50 πŸ‘ 38 πŸ” 1 πŸ’¬ 2 πŸ“Œ 2

Nope, doesn't change that at all! It's not quite a majority but it's close, and the raises they got were enormous. The fire department wasn't cut, but the Councilmember I worked with still voted against that budget for a reason.
