Thrilled to have some cyanotypes (some with encaustic) at the locally-owned Artifact store (5th Ave., Courtenay BC)! As the store's website notes, it "values human craft and the longevity of garments and objects made with quality workmanship. We carry products that are handmade in Canada...."
Darn...only available right now on Apple products. Android version is down the road.
Oh! This is good news as BlueSky isn't working as well for art stuff it seems. But that could be just that not many of the artists i follow on IG are here.
"Winter's Rest" will be in a show at the Pearl Ellis Gallery (Comox, BC March 4-29). I was struggling with the weight of too much white & dark blue on the left until my partner suggested turning it 90 deg! Duh! 12"x12" encaustic/cyanotype

I wondered if that might be it. Can't imagine wearing a respirator for hours on end but glad you are protecting your health and back doing encaustic!
Nice to see you back working in encaustic (have followed you for a while and wondered why you left it!)
Note to self....Leave the muddy dog in the car when experimenting with #cyanotypes outdoors.

Wrapped up another encaustic & double exposed cyanotype, with a photo transfer. Zoom in to see subtle circles in background on left. Haven't come up with a title yet though so suggestions welcome! 8"x8"

Lovely image. You might want to try avocado skins and pits to get some lovely pinks (upper right corner of this piece). This piece also includes 2 bleached ones (different amounts), 2 toned with fenugreek (different levels of bleaching first), and others with black tea, coffee and matcha tea.
Capturing waves & snow (for #cyanotype experiments) all on the same day! That's life on the west coast!
More experiments in my future, all inspired by the upcoming "Ebb and Flow" submission deadline at the Pearl Ellis Gallery in a couple of weeks.

"Round and Round We Go" is a diptych of encaustic over wet cyanotype.
My diptych "Round and Round We Go" is currently showing at the Comox Airport (YQQ) as part of the Regeneration show. It's on display in the check-in area until the end of April. 12"x24", #encaustic over #wetcyanotype.

Do you find a cool or warm surface works best?
Yes, i have done that too. But often, unlike IG, when i go to the artists page, I see they are also using their account for a LOT of political and news stuff. Tis important stuff, but not what I want to see when i am perusing for art and inspiration. I set up a separate account for that world!
Thanks! It helps find others!
Absolutely! Love the textures and colour variation. Often my first layer is a wet cyanotype, and sometimes it is then bleached a bit to get more yellows and oranges (and then greens) before recoating and exposing as a dry one... if that makes sense. Some have three exposures overall.
Setting up my Bluesky art profile in preparation for the jump from IG. But I am still figuring out how to get my feed to be mostly art that I am interested in as I have on IG. Anyone started an Encaustic starter pack or cyanotype one? Not clear on how to do that myself quite yet!
