(a) Reasons underlying prior POLITICAL DECISIONS, as reporting on them promotes the making and the acceptance of legitimate decisions.
(b) BAD REASONS DISSEMINATED BY POWERFUL AGENTS, as influential agents could diminish the quality of deliberation if uncontested.
10/ Regarding arguments, journalists should report not only the EXPLICIT REASONS invoked in public debates, but also IMPLICIT REASONS that may remain hidden, as well as CRITICAL REFLECTIONS that could foster quality audience engagement.
Three kinds of reasons are specially likely to be newsworthy:
9/ STEP 1: select the most newsworthy FACTS and ARGUMENTS.
Both factual and argumentative informations are newsworthy in proportion to how they aid citizens’ deliberation on a issue previously identified as newsworthy.
That is, their newsworthiness is derivative and proportional.
