Koralliriutat tukevat noin neljännestä merilajeista ja suojaavat rannikoita myrskyiltä. Ilman niitä merien monimuotoisuus romahtaa. Nyt voi jo heittää hyvästit. Toimi nyt! Myöhemmin on liian myöhään.

Pariisin ilmastosopimuksen solmimisesta tuli eilen kuluneeksi 10 vuotta. Ilmastokriisin ja luontokadon suhteen tilanne on tänä päivänä entistä pahempi ja Pariisissa sovittu tavoite 1,5 asteen rajasta on haudattu.

Tilanne on lohduton, mutta emme anna periksi, vaan vaadimme todellisia toimia!

In the workshop we will
1) discuss ways we use AI in academia (research and teaching),
2) how the environmental and social effects are considered in university guidelines for using AI and
3) whether the guidelines should be changed to account for the problems discussed in our previous event.

Patrik Floréen participated formulating current guidelines for AI usage @helsinki.fi. He got his PhD about neural networks in 1992 from UH. He has worked at UH, Aalto, Utrecht University, Research Council of Finland and European Commission, HIIT and is the Vice-Dean at the Faculty of Science.

Saroosh Shabbir joins the panel discussion from The Good AI Lab working on AI research and projects for social good. She has a PhD in Quantum Optics from KTH Royal Institute of Technology and industry experience in operations research, quantum computation, AI for logistics, and satellite imaging.

@sophiesong.bsky.social from @dairinstitute.bsky.social is a research associate working at the intersection of AI and workers, with a background in computer science, organizing, and policy. She will join online from Washington.

@denise-utochkin.bsky.social from @scientistrebellion.bsky.social is a postdoc in algorithm fairness, radical novelty and developing a case for AI abolition. They have a background in algorithmic culture and computational consumer culture theory from e.g. Norwegian School of Economics (NHH).

We are running out of time, and our governments have failed to act. Extinction Rebellion was formed to fix this.
