New survey ‘It’s Time To Talk’ will examine Indian musicians’ mental health challenges Noida-based music school the Global Music Institute and Indian mental health service Tatva have partnered with Goldsmiths college and research consultancy Creative Empirical from London to conduct ‘It’s Time to Talk’ , an India-wide survey that seeks to “understand the scale, nature, and determinants” of mental health challenges among the country’s musicians and industry professionals. ‘It’s Time to Talk’ aims to deliver data-based insights that will “contribute towards building a safer, more empathetic, and sustainable music ecosystem in India”, says the press announcement.

Big article on a big problem, poverty being the primary driver, with niche genres suffering the worst. Those working as musicians, actors and entertainers were the highest risk group in which overall the suicide rate for males was 20% higher than the male average and for females was 69% higher.
