Partner recently had recollections of the old Berry Bros & Rudd King’s Ginger so recent cocktails ginger based. All nasty.
Well I think I sat next to SB at a Gray’s Dinner and it certainly wasn’t Stella.
Rosemary Jeffries. Challenged all the coaches that parked outside 9 BG. Terrifyingly effective then and, no doubt, potentially devastating now. Can’t guarantee the non-lethal bit. Bored with social media. Hope all well with you.
Well yes he’s the nominal defendant but it’s not as if he’s being sued (or suing) in his personal capacity. Legal actions against the government do survive changes of administration.
(David Davis sued the government in opposition then became a minister)
Your (my) #FridayCocktail is a fruity highball. Calvados, peach liqueur, lemon juice, syrup, soda.
Essentially a health cordial, 3 of your 5-a-day*

He, Juliet and Paul would have been proud of you. Speaking truth to power is not just a motto.
Not by coincidence this latter group are kinder and more patient than the former too. They lack, I suspect, the insecurity that lends itself to cruelty
Yes. and they would be wrong. As you know.
The magazine Treasure was very much part of my early years. Followed by Look and Learn.
Black-and-white picture of two children playing in woodland. Also in the picture, there are 12 hidden animals including an owl, a bat and a squirrel.
An observation test for you - for your inner 8 year-old
“The artist has hidden 12 things in this picture. How many can you find?”

Today’s #FridayCocktail is a ginger and lemongrass mojito (containing a syrup made with those 2 ingredients)
The much-criticised body that investigates suspected miscarriages of justice has commissioned an independent review of its casework. It’s thought to be the first time the Criminal Cases Review Commission has called in external inspectors since it started work.

I’ve written probably more than my fair share about the ECHR, but lord I wish our politicians would stop banging on as if leaving it would achieve world peace and solve all society’s ills
And for now, the Supreme Court has signed off on such dubious practices without an explanation. Every American, including those who want tougher enforcement of our immigration laws, should demand that ICE does its job in a way that protects the rights of all Americans.
We don’t yet know what motivated the person who shot and killed Charlie Kirk, but this kind of despicable violence has no place in our democracy. Michelle and I will be praying for Charlie’s family tonight, especially his wife Erika and their two young children.
No not if it compounds a lack of understanding about the law. People are being arrested because of law made by politicians. They are arrested by the police. Judges try to make the best they can of someone before them. Even then there are sentencing guidelines and appeal. Banksy had the wrong target
Are you sure this is the point? People are unhappy about what is happening. They may be wrong about who is responsible but explaining that is not the judiciary doesn’t help.
Sorry. But if you put aside flogging your latest book for a moment, which I am sure is wonderful, doesn’t this worry you about what people think is going on?
Forget the gavel. This may well be a reflection of what people think is going on. Making light of it doesn’t really help.
Hm. But both Law Officers and the DPP bring their own experience to weighing the advice given to them by officials. The difference is that Law Officers are directly responsible to Parliament. Personally I would devolve the ULS process. Won’t happen as it’s the only thing that gets the AG good press
Join us at #WildSummitUK on Thurs 9 Sept for our Phabulous Pheasant Show, where we'll be ridiculing the absurd annual release of 50 Million non-native Pheasants & exploring the environmental impacts of this grotesque 'sport'.
Our show runs 1pm - 1.45pm, Lantern Hall.
+ All-day stall, ground floor.
It’s because Parliament continues to place responsibility on the Law Officers for consenting before certain actions can happen, decisions that cannot be delegated to officials which means no one Law Officer has the capacity to deal with all the cases. You have no idea about the workload.
Ah yes. Being in the AG’s office it was always an event. The sheer variety of the numerous responsibilities of an AG meant that no new AG had any idea of how to carry out the role. In their first days that had to rely on advice from their civil servants. That was not easy for some.
My record of having worked with more AGs and SGs than anyone else over 20 or more years is going to pot if they change every five minutes. On a more serious note you know better than anyone that law officers need time to understand their responsibilities. This is sad/dire …
Er. What?
Must be PJ!
True. I liked my school and was eventually head boy, which as a gay sport hating boy in Wales was something. But I still have no understanding of compasses and those other things we were given.
It’s true. You could have been the LCJ but you were more fun.
Then you went to a better comp than I did
