#RevilleReviews: Clueless

Fun, low-stakes movie with likeable characters. Gently pokes fun at privilege in a more affectionate way than you'd get now.

A weak story that lack tension or baddies, but you'd be totally buggin' if you didn't love its mid-90s bubblegum vibes (and soundtrack).

#RevilleReviews: The Adventures of Buckaroo Banzai Across the 8th Dimension

A brain‑surgeon rock‑star samurai physicist fights aliens alongside a cast of before-they-were-famous cameos.

Slow paced with humour that aged badly. I like weird films but this was far too 'stoner sci-fi' for me

#RevilleReviews: The Mask

Full-throttle Jim Carrey bursts through the screen like a comic book come to life.

Has a perfect amount of CGI - if made today, they'd go overboard.

We had the VHS growing up and I can still quote most lines! Daughter loved it too so not just a nostalgia fest.

#RevilleReviews: 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple

A bonkers film that demands a *lot* of willing sense of disbelief. Went too far for me, but I'm glad they don't churn out generic zombie fare.

For me the worst '28' so far, but still enjoyable and built brilliantly to exclamation points.

#RevilleReviews: Better Man

Robbie Williams' life told "thru a lens" of a musical monkey is like a bang average ITV drama with an inexplicably big budget.

The CGI is excellent and the songs weave in well, but it's a poorly told story with erratic pacing and one dimensional characters.

#RevilleReviews: Youth in Oregon

A suicidal old man's family shrug as they roadtrip with him to a euthanasia clinic.

A slow-paced bore with scenes that peter out or end abruptly with hammy gotchas.

Rural Oregon look great but this is a badly written, apathetically acted yawnfest. Avoid!

#RevilleReviews: The Holdovers

A boarding school pupil, teacher and cook with various forms of depression are forced to spend Christmas together.

They respond to each others' anxiety, bitterness and grief with a kindness and duty that makes for an excellent, untraditional, festive story.

#RevilleReviews: È stata la mano di Dio

Surreal, sad Italian comedy about an anxious teen coming of age in beautiful 1980s Naples.

Lots of tone shifts, but that fits the story. Some hilarious side characters feel like fond memories you have of oddballs you met fleetingly in adolescence!

#RevilleReviews: Christmas on Mistletoe Farm

Farm filled with festive magic is inherited by a widower who looks like Andrew Lincoln mixed with Ricky from EastEnders.

A feel-good family Xmas film, like a panto performed by kids TV presenters recorded on a phone - which adds to the charm.

#RevilleReviews: Buffalo '66

Released prisoner kidnaps a 'wife' to impress his dysfunctional parents.

Talented director and lead actor Vincent Gallo demands attention through slow-paced scenes and awkward silences.

Probably the most dark, surreal romcom ever. A low-budget indie classic!

#RevilleReviews: Café Society

Powerful folk faff around beautiful Golden Era Hollywood / NYC in meandering love triangles.

A hammy script led by the always one-dimensional Jesse Eisenberg, but Kristen Stewart is good as his unrequited love.

I've still never enjoyed a Woody Allen film.

#RevilleReviews: La Dolce Villa

A corporate high-flying widower rushes to Italy to stop his estranged daughter buying a crumbling Tuscan villa, and inevitably falls in love with life there.

Utterly predictable but there's a place for pleasant 90 minute romcoms in a beautiful setting.

#RevilleReviews: Spree

Wannabe social media influencer desperate for online relevance live-streams his heinous crimes while driving Ubers.

A good lead actor can't save poor pacing, weak dialogue and outright implausibility.

A decent idea that somebody might deliver better one day.

#RevilleReviews: Back To The Future Part III

Much better than I remembered. I still pine for more McFlys and 1955/2015, but Doc deserved to be one film's main focus.

It's a fun caper and the Wild, Wild West is a great setting that leads to a satisfying ending for a wonderful trilogy.

#RevilleReviews: Back To The Future Part II

One of my favourite ever sequels, possibly even more memorable than the first - but lacks some of the small-town charm.

The cast changes and effect on the story are a shame, but the alternate timelines and the way the endings sync are superb.

#RevilleReviews: Back To The Future

A perfect coming-of-age film brimming with iconic lines, great music and wholesome Americana.

Marty, Doc and Biff are brilliant parts played superbly - but 1955 George is my favourite. He sums up the movie's timeless humour, heart and humanity.

#RevilleReviews: 28 Years Later

Thoughtful look at post-zombie society and families, plus obligatory gore and shakey kill-cams.

Disliked the superzombies - like Jurassic Park deciding T Rex wasn't scary enough.

Ending is mad but I guess it is an alt-timeline with no news since 1997...!

#RevilleReviews: 28 Days Later

Classic dystopia movie, iconic scenes of abandoned London and performances that launched many careers.

Drags a bit and Hannah's a poor actress, but still a gripping watch 20+ years on.

Sad to see what Harchester Utd's Scott Lucas became in the apocalypse.

#RevilleReviews: Conclave

An interesting look into the secretive world of Vatican politics. Fiennes is excellent as the conflicted lead, but others are hammy (eg Tucci).

I didn't love the ending (or its pacing), but I guess they needed a big bang to trump the other candidates' endings.

#RevilleReviews: Beasts of the Southern Wild

A beautiful, tragic yet uplifting film about a Katrina-like event destroying a poverty stricken bayou community.

The story is told from the superb 6-year-old lead's perspective as she conjurs imaginary beasts to explain the traumatic events.

#RevilleReviews: The Banshees of Inisherin

Two men spiral when one ends a co-dependent friendship he doesn't want to be defined by.

The escalating despair, brutality & collateral damage echo the impact of the Irish independence battle happening off screen in a bleak and brilliant way.

#RevilleReviews: The Matrix

Great idea brilliantly executed, and speaks to the film's quality for such a weird concept to firmly entrench itself in mainstream culture.

Has inevitably lost the groundbreaking feel it had in 1999 and feels a bit 'incel fantasy' now - but still a good watch.

#RevilleReviews: Pulp Fiction

An absolute masterpiece. Each story warranted a standalone Oscar-worthy film, and despite differences in genre/tone/style they flow together perfectly. Peerlessly stylish but also grotesque, funny and clever. The coolest movie ever made

None of 2024's EFL Play Off winning managers will end 2024 at the club.

Southampton and Oxford will prob have some short-term success after changing, but every club's relentless demand for constant growth is tiresome and unsustainable.

For managers, promotion is a mug's game.
