TW: suicide. Researching a cousin branch a few weeks ago I found two suicides in one family, 2 generations apart. Both tragically gassed themselves in ovens, one due to a failed marriage. I had to take a few days off research.

Spill? I'm finding it hard to find a favourite. Jessie? Matt? Everyone else is a 'well, I like their cardie' ting.

Apparently my exposed doorstep is actually an 'enclosed porch' and my 'safe place'. Haven't had a red card at ages, just parcels left out in the rain to be nicked...

Not for a OPS but ordered a few; the site being down for maintenance meaning I can't access the ones they've found for me is annoying though

Train hero who saved passengers during attack named The rail worker credited with saving multiple lives is named as Samir Zitouni.

Algerian-born train hero saves train passengers from attack.

Since the right-wing press loves reporting criminals’ race and religion, surely they should report heroes’ too.

Wow - those are quite phenomenal headlines given the details of the story.

Ahh look, he’s just a ‘nerdy’ guy. No harm done.

You need to scroll down to paragraph 13 of the Sky piece to find the full story!

BBC, Sky, all UK media - you NEED to do better.

This isn’t “balance”.

Iterations of this meme keeps doing the rounds for a reason - it’s because the press keep doing this!

Stop it!

Snippet of Byline Times, November 2025, pointing out how the British mainstream media has created a "perfect circle of self-perpetuating hype" around Nigel Farage, i.e. how his prominence in MSM feeds his popularity which in turn justifies further coverage, and so on. Author proposes that this is a predictable consequence of an industry that has restructured itself around virality.

Superb piece by @jamesbloodworth.bsky.social in this month's @bylinetimes.bsky.social mag: "Britain's Media Has Let Nigel Farage Reshape Political Journalism - Why?" This article alone was worth my annual sub to one of the very few news outlets still doing proper journalism

Ok. They’ve pissed me off.

I’m back to tell you 3 things about ID cards:

1. Migrants ALREADY HAVE biometric ID cards & govts have been trying to digitise them for years w repeated fuckups & failures causing complete chaos - they don’t work, you do not want that system for you.

Well, that was fun. Diane Morgan's #wdytya was great and reminded of what doing your own tree can be like. Loved her 4xG (? - I lost count) grandmother's story. Reminded me of my 6xG GM's two Bastardy Orders. #ancestryhour

Hmn... Totally possible. I'll have to do some more digging... It could be that he went to Ottery before and only went back to live in Uffculme after he married, and it only became an issue when they hit hard times.

ThankU. Not sure that's the answer unless he'd lost his place of settlement somehow. He was b. in #Uffculme, marr in #OtteryStMary, but lived in Uffculme for the birth of his first 3 children. His wife wd have gained settlement in Uffculme. Then the removal order takes them off to Ottery again.

Hi #ancestryhour! Does anyone know about Removal Orders? Looks like my 4xGGrandparents were subject to one in 1813. They, with their kids, were moved from his birth Parish to that of his wife. Wdn't he have had a right to stay after living in the parish for at least 6 yrs and being born there?

Joseph married in #Offwell in 1802 to a recently widowed Sarah Gigg. The baptism for their 1st child, Mary, shows Joseph did at times use the #Restorrick name and they had at least 2 more children. The family moved back to Colyton by 1809 where Joseph died in 1822 aged 55. #genealogy #ancestry

Joseph Rexey Edwards, my 4xGGrandfather, was born in March 1767 in #Colyton, Devon. He was the son of Joan Edwards and as this #bastardyorder shows, his father was Joseph Restorrick who was ordered to pay the Parish 9 pence weekly plus a payment of 25 shillings. #genealogy #devon #ancestryhour
