Some people simply need to be followed everywhere they go for the rest of their lives by a nice old lady from the American Friends Service Committee yelling "here is a depraved murderer in your midst"

A black and white cat lying on a radiator peeks out from behind a bookcase
He used to do that a lot, but I think he prefers softer beds as he gets older
Lupin feels that instead of paying attention to the Supreme Court, we should close our laptops and enjoy the coveted Shelf Above the Radiator.
Callaloo
Baobab
Emcee (I can't say it's a word I would never use in regular life, but I never think of it as spelled that way)
One of my kids had continence issues until the teen years, and there are nighttime diapers for bedwetters at places like Target that work just as well in the daytime. By the time they were outgrowing the largest kid size, they fit into small adult diapers.
Eeeee! Seal pup season!
Although the thing that amuses me about this video is the mother seal, napping on her side so her pup can get a drink without her having wake up, which reminds me a great deal of some of the longer nights of my breastfeeding career.
A black cat standing on outdoor steps, looking at a snowy yard
A black cat staring at the camera, pretending to be utterly innocent
Acting innocent while in reality doing his best to sneak outside and roll around in the snow like an idiot.
A black and white cat lying on his back in a box lid
Lupin is here to remind us to take a deep breath and relax.
A small black and white kitten curled up asleep
A day like today needs industrial strength cuteness, so here is baby Lupin.
A 13 year old white boy, smiling and holding stuffed animals next to a Christmas tree
A 20 year old young woman leaning over the arm of a chair and smiling
A 16 year old boy, sitting in a chair and reading
Merry Christmas to those who celebrate and happy Thursday to those who don't!
A black cat sitting cozily with his eyes closed
Sirius, making up for tragic lack of cats to sit on my lap at work today (a clear OSHA violation). #caturday
A tortoiseshell cat curled up asleep
Penelope is our smallest cat, and rules over her brothers with an iron paw.
I think it's one of the most fatal mistakes you can make: assuming that a small child will in any way pay attention to the needs of their body and act accordingly, instead of turning into a feral monster that must be wrestled into performing the most basic acts of keeping a healthy body.
That is absurdly adorable.
A black and gray cat posing like a French girl
A bad cell phone picture of a heron, taken in northern Michigan
Happy birthday from Lupin and a heron in northern Michigan!
I'm not sure why I ever doubted my neurodivergent science-loving kid would have as great a time as we did. Definitely worth the trek to Doylestown!
Me: Should I take James (13) to the @tkingfisher.com signing? He loved Wizard's Guide and Minor Mage, but he's not a horror kid.
Ursula Vernon: proceeds to fill the talk with fun facts about how roadrunners are nasty velociraptors and patented caterpillar inflaters, among others. /1
Stupid babies need the most attention!
the same breakfast.
I don't think it's very hard to see where the autism in my family comes from.
My grandfather (born 1910) wore a suit every day of the week and worked until he was 80 bc he couldn't imagine following a different schedule. He also ate shredded wheat and bananas every morning and when he stayed in a hotel that didn't have it, he bought them a box so he could still have /1
Those days are just so awesome. My oldest is finishing her second week of a college class and it took so much work to get her here. I hope The Wins keep coming.
16, every time we pass a roadwork sign: "Road work ahead? I sure hope so!"
So very neurodivergent.
13 doesn't have a particular favorite joke, but is a big fan of irony and witty dialogue. Also neurodivergent.
A very wet black Labrador Retriever walking along the shore of Lake Michigan
Piper, living her best life on vacation.
A black cat with eyes half open, curled in a ball.
Sirius says it's too early for this nonsense.
A picture of the shore of Lake Michigan at sunset, with two lighthouses in the background.
Well, here's the shore of Lake Michigan. I think it's pretty nice. ๐ Living on the East Coast now, I find most people who haven't seen the Great Lakes aren't aware of the scope of them.
A 13 yo boy showing off a small snake wrapped around his finger.
A 13 year old boy knitting a small snake.
We just got back from a wonderful trip to Michigan - lots of family, wonderful beaches, lovely weather. But the most important part is that James learned how to knit snakes. ๐งถ
There's also driving through the UP and taking the Mackinac Bridge south, which is a gorgeous drive.
Speaking as someone who has made the drive from Michigan to both Illinois and Indiana many, many times, it is well worth taking the ferry and driving through Michigan. Illinois driving is either insanity around Chicago, or corn fields, with soy for some visual interest.
That's so awesome! My severely dyslexic kid graduated this year at a 12th grade reading level, so I know the struggle and the triumph.
A black and white cat enjoying an open window on a warm day.
Lupin says good morning!
