One of best ways to get accurate reference of any ext environment to create is use Google Street View. Immerse yourself & live through it. Other best way is to visit the location. For this, I had the chance to actually visit & take reference then revisit through Street View.

Substance Sampler has saved me a lot of times, many times. LOVE this software. Simple & powerful. Havenβt even begun to use Sampler to full potential. Only been using to generate quick masks. This 1 will need some manual fixing. Cant wait until I start photo to material creation.

Experimenting with initial tests of creating mesh edge decals to hide sharp environment corners on walls, columns etc.
Just corner piece of geometry with decal material assigned to it then placed at sharp corners to add detail.
Decal material just has normal map & opacity map.

After setting up scene in #SubstancePainter, you may need to update the mesh: modeling, UVing or both
Make updates modeling/UV updates then re-export. Overwrite existing FBX
Then go to Edit > Reimport (Ctrl+Shift+R)
Painter will update mesh w/changes
Bake Mesh Maps if needed

Packing texture masks. Placing each black/white texture into individual channel in PS. Cuts from 3 textures down to 1. Then in game engine choose which channel you want to use. In #UE5 this can be done through Component Mask. You can do this for texture masks, roughness, metallic. #gameart #gamedev
Texture masks are essential for environments. I use them all the time to add variation, break up tiling, blend between textures, storytelling through wear/tear, grunge, dirt, leaks, imperfections.

Do not guess how something looks like. Not for modeling, not texturing, not lighting. Look at photo reference, look at Google Street view, look w/your own eyes. Create to match then deviate from there. Use real world as base then add your own artistic view, vision, style on top.

You can copy #UE5 Material setups as plain text by selecting all or portions of Mat setup then Ctrl+C (Copy), Ctrl+V (Paste) into Notepad
Then save for later to speed up Mat setups, give text to some1 else to use without .uasset file or even copy/paste in earlier version of UE5

You can easily and quickly export masks to file in Substance Painter by right-clicking on the Mask Icon and then choosing Export Mask to File.

Export any texture out of #UE5 to use or modify.

βͺοΈRight-Click on it and choose Asset Action > Export

Substrate is now default Mat system in UE5.7+
You can continue using default Main Root Node given when creating New Mat. It'll work w/most standard surfaces. At runtime its Substrate anyway
BUT to get Substrate layering features insert Slab node then connect output to Front Mat
