Text overlayed on a picture of books on shelves reads: WLA wants to thank you for supporting libraries, local control, and intellectual freedom in Wyoming!
This is what community looks like! Wyoming’s Book Banning Bill, HB10, FAILED to advance tonight after not being introduced by the deadline. I am so relieved and grateful. I hope this victory can give others a little hope in difficult times. We fight on, together. #fReadom
Call your reps about this. Every time a book ban has been overturned or shut down, it's because the vast majority of people who believe in the freedom to read spoke up.

To do this, anti-trans lawmakers in Kansas moved fast to change the law, overrode the governor’s veto, and pushed for the legal changes to go into effect nearly immediately. That kind of power—to void gender on official documents, to compel gender conformity—is terrifying and it will not stop here.

Two very specific things I love about Texas—in a truly personal way; I really mean the word “love” here—are UT and Big Bend National Park. Watching these incredible institutions get gutted by the people in power is making me incandescent with rage.
I’m bereft right now.
What???????????????/
it’s breathtaking to see how this country is in decline by every possible metric
If you haven't read this from @ifightforbooks.bsky.social and @heykellyjensen.bsky.social, you should. It's a clear-eyed look at the legal standing of libraries in Texas, Mississippi, and Louisiana.
If you don't know where to send great book-themed V-Day cards, I recommend Tx State Rep Hillary Hickland, who just called anyone upset about books being banned from schools a "groomer" who shouldn't be near kids. Reach out & let her know what you think: hillary.hickland@house.texas.gov
“Govt officials now ultimately determine what is on the shelves of public libraries, & therefore our books are on the ballot every time we go vote …
Library patrons will be rewarded with a library that reflects their needs only if their local officials agree with them.”
I really hope y'all are emailing her. If you need a message to go on your card, try:

You got To Kill a Mockingbird banned,
And Pinkalicious, too.

On Nov. 16, a mental health counselor recorded in Kamilla’s medical records that her mother reported the girl had lost her appetite after being “served food that contained worms.” A week later, the couple said, children were told to gather in the gym for what they believed would be a Thanksgiving celebration. Excitement spread as families saw tables set with turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, they said. The children waited expectantly. But when a parent asked when the celebration would begin, Oksana said, staff told them the holiday meal was for employees, not detainees. The children, she said, watched despondently as the feast was packed away.
On Thanksgiving, the immigrant children held at the Dilley detention center gathered in the gym for what they thought was a holiday feast.
The kids salivated over a spread of turkey, sandwiches, pastries and pies, a family told me.
But the food wasn’t for detainees — it was for the staff.

After nearly four years, I beat Michael Lunsford and Citizens for a New Louisiana today in a unanimous decision by the Louisiana Supreme Court. I’ll be collecting my money from last four years and look forward to discovery. More coming soon!!!!! #Invictus #ForTheLibrarians
After months of attending screenings and talking about this film, I’m so excited that anyone can stream The Librarians now. 90 minutes that tell the story of the fight against censorship that has been raging for the past half decade. Check it out! m.youtube.com/watch?v=ywQO...
Just started watching this, and it's absolutely breaking my heart. I grew up in Texas, in a conservative Christian community. I never even HEARD the word "gay" until 6th grade, and realized "Oh. That's me." It was the library that held my answers because nobody else would even discuss it.
Also, this clip is going to come in handy.
Group picture with Adrienne Quinn Martin, Suzette Baker, Carolyn Foote, me, Laney Hawes, Sanobar Wilkins, and Leila Green Little.
On a rainy night in April of 2023 I got to take part in an interview at the downtown Austin Public Library for this film. It was the first time I met (in person) this group—who are some of the bravest, smartest, most impressive people I know.

I'm so thrilled that The Librarians is finally available for anyone to watch. This documentary features many of the most amazing people I know, and some of the bravest, most selfless people in the world, and a dire warning about the fight they are undertaking for all of us.
A lot of Republican voters are not good judges of what Republicans actually believe and want to do. Ie “mass deportation” means “he just wants to deport the criminals”
I think the answer to this is: when the media reports on what Republicans say they want, many Republican voters say “well I don’t want that” and they trust their self perception over the actual words and deeds of Republican officials and assume the media is lying bsky.app/profile/jame...
