Graph of award probability of R35 and R01 from NIH factbook as a function of review rank percentile. As is apparent, 2025 is a significant departure, with lower award probabilities at all scores <40 and significant departures from norm, where even being in the top 10% is no longer a nearly certain indicator of success.
Data source: https://report.nih.gov/nihdatabook/report/302
The data is in: the NIH goalposts have shifted.
What were once almost certain fundable scores have become coin flips and what used to be likely grants have become aspirational, leading to fewer awards.
Another manifestation of how HHS policies have led to fewer awards and less science.

Not just measles: Another outbreak of a vaccine-preventable disease is happening | CNN
The FDA approved a vaccine for mumps nearly 60 years ago, so why are some areas of the United States experiencing outbreaks now, and who should be concerned?
Measles isn't the only preventable infection on the rise. Now mumps is apparently making a comeback. Maryland health officials have confirmed an uptick in mumps casesβ26 so far this year. With cases of whooping cough also continuing to rise, it's clear RFKjr's anti-vax agenda is having an impactπ

WHO graphic on a purple background titled βTeachers, you can support children with hearing loss.β It lists tips for inclusive classrooms: include every child in activities; seat the child at the front so they can hear and see clearly; ensure good lighting and face the child when speaking; encourage consistent use of hearing aids or implants; support peers in helping children express their needs; and learn sign language if needed. At the bottom, a teacher stands beside a board while a child with hearing aids sits at a desk.

Dan Carter: The genomics training will help the team use new techniques to search for remerging viruses in rodents that may pose a risk to humans. With this information, if infections occur, we hope to be able to detect these cases in clinical settings.
π #UKPHRST & Fiocruz are studying rodents in Brazil's Atlantic Forest to uncover any viruses they carry that could pose a health risk to local communities.
π¬Our #UKPHRST microbiologists delivered training on virus detection using genomic sequencing.
