I set up a search in my PerfectIt style sheet to find nonbreaking spaces, which donβt crop up too often, but I find it very satisfying to zap those!! This new symbol is a new one for me. I reverse google-searched the image and it still didnβt come up with anything helpful. Odd!
Itβs kind of an eerily beautiful photo.
Also, hi Jen! π
Oh no! I havenβt gotten out much lately, so I didnβt see this. But there was a large fallen tree blocking the road on Linden. Yikes.
For the record, itβs not a content control box. π€ Itβs some other mysterious square that doesnβt show up when I copy/paste and is only visible in the reveal formatting view. π€·ββοΈ Itβs not a big deal since itβs basically invisible. I just like to have an exceptionally clean document!
Lovely! π
Ah yes, this is what Iβve done with those pesky content control boxes before and it works great. I havenβt been home yet to check and see if thatβll work on the current weird boxes (they look a little different so Iβm not sure). But I will try it and report back. ππ Hope you are doing well, Kyra!!
Thank you! Iβve been out and about, but I will try it tonight to see if this works.
I will try that! I forgot about that. Iβve used that in the past for similar oddities.
Actually, Iβll just be deleting it, not replacing it with anything. Either a wildcard search string or just the name of it would be helpful.
Character in Word document that looks like a small square with a larger square around it.
Can someone tell me what this weird square character is called? I want to be able to search for it and replace it with a space. π
You are free to use the word in your own work! I made a different decision.
Also thereβs no reason to use gendered language to describe such an thing.
Itβs for a global audience of scientists (not all have English as first language) who I think will understand sewer hole better than manhole.
I picked sewer hole. Could also be maintenance hole or utility hole, apparently. #amediting
Had to look up the alternative wording for βmanhole.β Iβm doing important work here in the editing world, what can I say. π€·ββοΈ
Hi Ellen!! π
Iβm obsessed with all the Lego plants! I have a Lego bouquet of flowers on my dining room table. This looks like a cute little poinsettia.
Nice to see you, Alicia! Itβs been a while! Lovely profile picture. π
Nice to see so many editors out there in the Bluesky! π
Iβd love to be on the second list. Thank you!
