Today we joined @repmarktakano.bsky.social, former Education Dept. staff, and allies to mark 1 year of Linda McMahonβs leadership and call out what her cuts mean for students. Public schools are essential. Weβll won't stop organizing until every student has a fully-funded public school.
As a HS teacher, I used to take my students to read at nearby elementary schools during NEAβs #ReadAcrossAmerica week. Full-circle magic.
Today at Cardinal:
β’ Every kinder got We Are Definitely Human
β’ Every 1st grader got Mistaco
Reading in Spanglish. Big joy. Kids seen.

It was great to talk to @ktvufox2.bsky.social about what #ReadAcrossAmerica is all about: literacy, learning, and diversity.
Learning and growth are a lifelong journeyβwhich is why it is critical that students read each and every day.
Boycotts didnβt start in the 1960s. Communities have long used collective action to demand fairness and push the country closer to its promise. Explore what this history teaches about civic participation in schools today.
Educators go above and beyond every day to keep students safe, supported, and ready to learn. When ICE keep students from class, itβs educators who step up to protect stability and belonging.

Public schools are strongest when families and educators stand together. In this interview, journalist Laura Pappano explains how disinformation is fueling attacks on public education, and how parents are organizing to protect their schools.

In 2025, the Trump administration made deep cuts to federally funded scientific research. But a new @pewresearch.org survey shows Americans across party lines still want the U.S. to lead in scientific achievement.
We joined the ACLU to sue to stop this attack from the Trump administrationβand now they're standing down.
When we come together to protect the interests of students and educators, we win.
As natural disasters increase and FEMAβs capacity shrinks, educators are often the first to act. We spoke with educators across the nation who have supported their communities during harrowing times. They recount their stories of stepping up for students when it mattered most.
Vouchers were first used after Brown v. Board to avoid integrating public schools. Today, they still operate outside the civil rights and accountability standards that guide public education, and a new federal voucher program could divert $50 billion from public schools nationwide.
Congratulations to the 2026 NEA ESP of the Year finalists! Each of these five Education Support Professionals demonstrate outstanding accomplishments and reflect the vital role ESPs play in public education.
Congress' arbitrary limits on graduate student loans leave education degrees behind. It sends a troubling message that educators and their professional growth donβt matter.
We disagree! Tell Congress educators deserve the same respect and benefits as other professionals!
I am deeply saddened by the passing of Reverend Jesse Jackson. Today, I celebrate the life of a giant who was a pillar of justice for labor, education, and communities across this nation.
May we carry forward the hope that he kept alive and remember that justice is a collective responsibility.
School vouchers are pulling resources from the public schools that serve nearly every child. Research shows they raise costs, enable discrimination, and leave students behind. Learn what voucher expansion really means for public school students.

ICE's mere presence near schools terrorizes students and disrupts educators' teaching. Fear and cruelty have no place there.
This is why @neatoday.bsky.social is taking legal action to demand long-standing protections for sensitive locationsβlike schoolsβbe restored. #ICEOutSchools bit.ly/46368zA

I met with PA @pseaorg.bsky.social @neatoday.bsky.social teachers this week in DC. They shared heartbreaking stories from our community about kids who are too scared to come to school, afraid that they, or someone in their family, will be taken by ICE. The American people have had enough of this.
ICE may be leaving Minnesota, but Columbia Heights teacher Peg Nelson is clear: "No child in America should go through what Columbia Heights and other schools in MN have endured. ICE needs to stay away from schools everywhere!" #MNinDC #ICEOutMN
