Can apparently only get my kid to school 30 mins early or 5 min late soooo guess he’s going to have extra playground time every morning.
But seriously, is it too much to ask the all these comply-in-advance cowards to fucking get the message? No one wants this, and we will fight to keep our democracy.
Showed one of my credential students the #sschat archives yesterday & he was flabbergasted at all the amazing resources we shared over those ~10 years. Good reminder of the power of social media community before it became monetized & branded.
Ok this is how you know I’ve been MIA for too long on here that I totally missed this 🫠 hope it went well!!!
Y’all I could not remember the word “canals” today when talking about industrialization in the US 🤦♀️🤦♀️
Why did it just take me literally 20 minutes to remember Seymour Papert's name!?!? ahhhh
Had the most f’d up dreams after hearing about the crash in the Potomac right before bed.
Underrated thing I miss from grad school for sure. Now I just gotta channel this vibe with my undergrads next week for first week of classes!
Every safety regulation was written in blood, frequently with a body count higher than one, and it’s not political to put the blame on people who want to “move fast and break things” when they start breaking human lives.
I think that we should be talking about what Trump is trying to do to trans people in the context of the Nuremberg laws.
if you cared about morale and recruitment you would not alienate a group that disproportionately enlists into the military, but if you are a white nationalist…
As expected, the Trump team is already deleting climate info from government websites. In anticipation, our team at Urban Ocean Lab created a permanent archive of 100+ key resources and published a permanent archive: www.urbanoceanlab.org/resource-hub 👩🏽💻
I am working with colleagues to develop a sharable resource for education leaders about how to respond to immigration efforts in schools. If you work for or in a school district that has put out public resources (especially protocols like this one drive.google.com/file/d/1zMId... ) please share!
Spending the day at UCI for the Mapping New Histories convening from UC Humanities Research Institute & UCI Teacher Institute/UCI History Project. Love the art in this land acknowledgment!
This morning NPR reported on Hochul’s proposed school cell phone ban. They said every stakeholder agrees with the ban: teachers, parents, and law enforcement.
Notice a pretty large stakeholder missing from that group? How about kids?
Time to reup this Pop Off!… www.tc.columbia.edu/digitalfutur...
Do it! Do it!! You deserve all the awards!
As an alumnae sorority volunteer, learning scientist, and teacher educator, I really appreciate the metaphor of continuing to engage in practices that make students fail over and over again just because we experienced it and survived; it is not rigor but rather hazing.
you are a godsend, Shana!! I hate those AI overviews!
@thetattooedprof.bsky.social introducing the idea of Zombie Ideas in education at our winter faculty teaching conference--taking on Learning Styles as the first 'undead' idea. My pet peeve in pedagogy trainings!!
tfw you accidentally bring your personal computer...covered in radical stickers... to a work event on a notoriously conservative campus....😆
He listened to it on repeat 3 times while taking a shower tonight 😅
I don’t know what it says about me as a parent that my 7yo’s favorite song is Sucker for Pain by Lil Wayne, Wiz Khalifa & Imagine Dragons….at least I got to emphasize again that just because words are used in a song doesn’t mean you’re allowed to say them…😬
Got to gift my labors of love (handmade needlepoint) to my MIL & aunt-in-law finally! Belize is my MIL happy place & she goes every year for her birthday so I knew as soon as I saw this canvas I had to make it for her!
If your students can’t read your slides past the first row because so much is taken up by graphics…that is a problem.
Yeahhhh this is essentially because I’m going to scream if I see one more awful Canva presentation or graphic. Or a TPT worksheet that is pretty but terrible.
Anyone seen good resource / reading on how to design materials for students - whether digital or analog - that utilize design principles to make great materials? Thinking about use of Canva & other tools in ways that are aesthetic but not accessible or easily used by students.
This is trench art, made by a soldier living the unbearable in 1916. When we face cataclysm, humans make art. It’s how we cope & protest, every kind of art, including ephemeral arts from rage baking to a game night.
Hobbies are human
hobbies are self-care
hobbies are art
hobbies are resistance!
My response below to Qs for this article on “Private Schools Group Apologizes After Claims of Antisemitism at Event” in which my talk was one that made four Jewish students feel threatened bc I used the word genocide. Let’s unpack since they gave ADL the last word. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/15/n...
