My dad’s final years were filled with love and joy. If it weren’t for @kumail.bsky.social, & all the people who donated, he wouldn’t have had that.

In his modified wheelchair & portable vent, Dad was able to get out of the hospital bed and enjoy the simple things we all take for granted: a stroll in the autumn leaves, going to the park with the kids, eating at a cafe. He even got to go to an F1 race in Montreal! (6/7)

But Kumail posted our fundraiser to his Twitter account. And because of that, we were able to raise enough money to relocate my dad to VT.

Dad lived another 6 years up here with us. He got to watch his grandkids grow, he made new friends, & got to spend milestones & holidays with his family. (5/7)

We found a charity that would airlift my dad to VT at cost (volunteer pilot, volunteer nurse, volunteer respiratory therapist)— but it was still nearly $15,000. We couldn’t afford that on our own. So we started a GoFundMe. I didn’t expect much, tbh. It was a lot of money. (4/7)

Docs had to intubate him, which meant he literally lost his voice & the ability to advocate for himself. I flew to FL a lot, but it was costly. We needed to move him to VT, but couldn’t by regular means, since he needed a ventilator to breathe. Health insurance refused to pay for transport. (3/7)

Well, in 2018, my dad got really ill. Degenerative neurological condition. He lost the ability to walk, hold up his head, or breathe on his own. He was living in FL alone, since my stepmom had died a few years before. I was living in VT with a baby & a preschooler.

I’ve unmasked a white nationalist fight club in my city: Montreal.

After weeks of work (with help!), I can reveal an Olympian as a member of the Frontenac Active Club — one who, unbeknownst to the owners, brought them to a local gym for training and propaganda photos.

Here’s my investigation:

I don’t understand it either. It’s like they’d rather curse the dark than light a candle.

::Sigh:: I empathize. My mother & my in-laws do the same thing, and there isn’t even a language barrier. We’ve tried to do zoom calls, but they said seeing the grandkids from a distance is “too hard” for them. So they withdrew & now have no relationship. It’s sad that that’s the choice they’ve made.

I’m so glad that attitude exists outside of the community of artists. Gives me hope that some people appreciate reality, skill, and hard work.

The pro-AI art crowd are really ready to die on the hill of “I don’t wanna put in the time/effort to learn how to make the sort of art I want to make, so I’m gonna have the plagiarism machine to do it for me.” How boring.

These people want peaches, but don’t want to shake the tree. #NoAIArt

People in Iran were rising up against a brutal, geriatric dictator who’d had cancer 2x. He was gonna die soon anyway. But now the US has martyred him, slaughtered a bunch of school girls, & galvanized the various parties that might’ve fallen to chaos & infighting— uniting them behind Khamenei’s son.
