Lucas the deer is wearing a green gambeson with a golden brooch on the left side of his chest. Under the gambeson, he wears a gorget, with his cream colored shirt barely visible underneath. He also wears splint armor on his limbs, sporting dark green gloves and tight brown pants. The joints of his limbs are armored, they have a decorative pattern on them. He is also wearing a two piece kettle helmet that allows his antlers and ears to stick out from the top. A little strap is visible under his ears as well as the spilt in the helmet. Lucas himself is smiling. He is also wearing a belt around his midsection too. Lucas also has a wooden shield on his back, being held on by a rope going around his shoulder. He also wields a spiked mace that’s round at the top that’s also spiked. On the wooden grip he has a blue fabric tied on while the ends of the fabric dangle.

Amstarting a dnd campaign soon with some friends, so I figured I should get a portrait for the campaign for my boy Lucas. I think he looks ready for an adventure.

update: the school is going to contact him to steer him away from their student body & i did actually email him again to tell him i put a curse on him. i couldn't resist

rich people are too stupid to recognize integrity. i should have told him that i was using my power as an aquarius to put a curse on his game. then when his project goes up in flames and runs out of money, it would actually haunt him, and he would perhaps learn to fear the evil eye

so i messaged my old art school & the head of the local indie dev community & told them there's a capitalist shark in the water. i knew the indie gamers would already know better, but if KCAI sent me this guy's want ad, that means they didn't smell him coming, and they should have. its an art school

so i did, tried to get what i needed from the interview and sent him an email to ask about a contract. he leaves me on read for a week and when i finally msged him back today to ask if he still wanted to do it, he was Very Salty. he thought me very insubordinate for trying to give him good advice

i can tell he's a dunning-kruger fool and his game is never going to get finished, but four thousand dollars is a mouth-watering amount of money 2 me, so im like. am i exploiting this old man for his money. should i gently hint that he should talk to some people in the local indie gamedev community

but like, he's cute! he's 65y/o, british accent, the first thing he says to me is that he's autistic. he's very into chess and the mechanics of games, he's trying to work on something in a genre that i like, so i tried to be polite when he spent 45min of the interview rambling about irrelevancies

turns out the guy has never actually made a game, doesn't have a design document and can't really tell me what i'm making for him, is hiring an artist before he has a coder, and thinks he can hire a coder to work for him on spec. like, dangerously naive, no idea what he's doing

ahahahaaaaa haahaha so. i got a job offer last week for a game art freelance thing. the guy was gonna be a nightmare client & the pay was below industry standard, but i was like "that much money would give me time to catch up on comms, i'll just take it and make sure we have a rock solid contract"

I started writing this comic in 2019, but working on it was crazy painful and difficult so I couldn't finish it until I'd been very happy and stable for a couple of years. for me it's become a real protective talisman for whenever I feel like crashing out massively about the past.

Reef the shark sitting atop an exposed lookout tower in the desert at night. A dim orange lamp shines down on him, illuminating his outfit and equipment. He is wearing a dirty white and blue jumpsuit with orange accents, and is carrying a backpack radio transmitter while holding a handheld microphone/speaker. He stares out into the distance with a tired expression, hating the job he's been given as lookout. A set of futuristic buildings stretches up in the distance, contrasting the isolation felt by Reef as he is tied to this outpost all by himself.

Here's probably my favorite piece I've commissioned yet, a digital painting from @pibbbou.bsky.social of Reef in an 80's mecha pilot style of outfit.

I'm so pleased with the way this came out, Pib is such a great artist to work with and he absolutely nailed every part of this piece.

anyway sorry if you're waiting for an email from me or anything, clearly the brain worms have been extremely active this month. sketch slots open for the stream this week or whatever, regulars you know where to find me etc

but the long and short of it is that if you want to resist AI, you have to resist the behaviors that make you a good consumer. and people trying to defend their jobs in creative industries do not really want you to do that, bc then our industry would shrink

i'm so glad to hear a musician talk about it bc frankly music fans appreciate craft in a way that visual artists already do not. there are a lot of reasons for that which i do not have room to go into on bsky, maybe i will finish that essay abt it eventually
