"Never look down on anybody unless you're helping him up." - Jesse Jackson
If we witness someone in suffering - and our first instinct is to use a Bible verse to justify them experiencing that pain - we are not worshipping God...we're worshipping empire and using God as a means to an end.
The literary tool in Genesis 1 and the Creation story (a chiastic poem) reminds me that my worth is found in God, not my efficiency, and that rest is welcomed by Him.
A constant challenge for me, but one thatβs so necessary.
One of my biggest struggles is knowing how to rest and not put so much of my self-worth on the effectiveness of my productivity.
Iβm wired to always be moving, working, and creating something new.
Allow your identity to be formed and found in Jesus today.
He's told you who you are. You don't have to prove anything to Him.
He calls you loved, cherished, and worth sacrificing everything for...
Rest in that.
The only thing more powerful than hate is love.
And Jesus exemplified a love that was radical.
Good morning, everyone.
Let's go lead with love today.
An example for how to live out Jesusβ teachings in community with one another.
Not a vessel to prop up empire.
Not a shield for injustice.
A place where all can feel welcomed and find their place in this world.
Thatβs what I believe the Church can beβ¦
I criticize the American Evangelical Church, not because I donβt believe in it, but because I understand what it can be when itβs focused on the right things.
The Church should be a place for caring for the poor, the marginalized, and the oppressed. A voice for the voiceless.
Reconstructed my faith with key tools like Bema Podcast and found a deeper love of Jesus waiting for me on the other side.
I work full-time in vocational ministry and use my giftings to serve.
Began a deconstruction journey of my Christian Nationalist upbringing in 2020 through noticing that what I had been taught about Jesus and His love for others didnβt match the faith that I was seeing carried out around me.
I left the Church. I loved Jesus, but didnβt love what I was seeing.
I was raised in an ultra-conservative home.
Homeschooled through 10th grade to shield me.
Private Christian high school, Christian college.
Began working in vocational ministry around 20 years old.
Was great chatting with @thekyleyates.bsky.social on today's Late-Round Perspectives. We talked about surprises from the 2025 season, last year's rookie class, some of the top guys in this year's class, and more.

βThere are three ways to ultimate success: The first way is to be kind. The second way is to be kind. The third way is to be kind." - Fred Rogers
And that looks like using my voice and platform to speak out against injustice.
And helping those in need.
In America right now, you have the opportunity to find out that answer.
When this chapter in history closes, and my kids are learning about it in history class one day, I want them to be able to know exactly where I stood.
History often gives us the chance to insert ourselves into previous pivotal moments.
Not by how it precisely repeats itself, but how it rhymes.
If youβve ever wondered how you - or someone you know - would have responded in 1930βs Germanyβ¦or in the Civil Rights movement in the USβ¦
"The place God calls you to is the place where your deep gladness and the world's deep hunger meet."
- Frederick Buechner
We canβt be surprised when that attracts and motivates people with equal amounts of hatred inside of them for people who look and think differently than they do.
This is why character in leadership matters immensely.
In this case, lives literally hang in the balance on it.
βAttitude reflects leadership, captain.β
When the leadership of the country describes other human beings as βmonstersβ, βanimalsβ, βpoisoning the bloodβ, βgarbageββ¦
Good morning, all.
Let's take a small step towards being more kind, compassionate, and empathetic today.
"You shall not misuse the name of the Lord your God, for the Lord will not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name." - Exodus 20:7
And no, this is not referring to saying "Oh my god".
This is about carrying out inhumane acts and proclaiming it in the name of God.
Iβm not seeking to force my faith on you. I celebrate your faith background, whatever that is.
And I think thereβs something beautiful that we can all learn from each other as we come to the table with respect for one another as human beings.
Thatβs what I want this space to be.
Iβm vocal about my faith on here and my love for who Jesus was/is and how I strive to model my life after Him in how He loved others.
But if you donβt believe those same things, please know that Iβm happy youβre here.
Be wary of others who seek to force their opinions on you through quick speaking and loud combativeness.
Often the ones who speak the most have the least to actually say.
"I prefer you to make mistakes in kindness than work miracles in unkindness." - Mother Teresa
Our heart matters.
And what's in our heart overflows into our actions.
"I've learned that people will forget what you said... but people will never forget how you made them feel." - Maya Angelou
"There may be times when we are powerless to prevent injustice, but there must never be a time when we fail to protest." - Elie Wiesel
Our voices - not violence - are the first line of defense.
"A good man brings good things out of the good stored up in him, and an evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in him." - Matthew 12:35
Love these words of Jesus.
Look at the fruit of someone's life. You'll see what's in their heart from it.
