I think the biggest damage to the art community was the obsolescence of gallery sites (y!, deviantart, etc) and the rise of scroll-by social media, like twitter and even tumblr. Art is not ''content'', you shouldnt need to post art every day (or every month!) to be relevant. This mindset sucks.

I've had artists sometimes misunderstand a hair texture on a reference and that was usually a matter of mistaken interpretation of the reference that was quickly corrected.
Had an in person art trade years ago with someone who made a brown OC White and I was so in shock I couldn't find words to ask

I've heard from people sometimes who had this happen to them and asked for a correction- in some cases it was lack of understanding of how to render a skin color, but in more extreme cases (also in art trades) it was sometimes claimed as "fixing" an issue with a design. Nasty stuff.
