The closest role in the real world would be something like the pope, but minus the leadership of the Vatican. Something closer to a tertiary authority figure for the country without outright being in charge of it.

In the modern era the Exorcist job evolved from a religious to a government role, so her time is spent at the temple doing paperwork and the rare ceremony. In the old days they'd be fed the souls of prisoners straight from their bodies, but now her subordinates bring her captured ghosts and spirits.

Due to a misunderstanding Rinda became convinced Suzu and Ruyu are evil spirits, so she decided to exorcism them in the traditional way of the Shrine Fox. (With her stomach.)

Of course they tried to protest, but that's -exactly- what an evil yokai would say!
