A lot of these statements, prognostications, and protestations are just fears of big electoral losses in the upcoming midterms these politicians from both parties are likely to feel from voters for a number of reasons.
People ask me all the time about oil prices and the economy, and I say the same thing (I should have it printed on a t-shirt): Don't believe it until you see it; saying it doesn't make it.
I hate to say it, but I just don't think the government's positions are all that credible these days nor do I trust much of the information that they try to disseminate through their own channels and proxies:

I agree. My grandfather’s family died before I was born (pneumonia, flu, other infectious diseases of the day), so this table is special.
