If the reports of the Mets offer being 3/68 are correct, Stearns never wanted Alonso. He’s just making an offer so he can say they tried
Looks like no Sasaki for the Mets. It was expected but was still hoping they could pull it off. Hopefully this moves them on to other things
Seems like if Pete is willing to go short term, there’s no reason for the Mets not to bring him back. I would think this is what they’ve been waiting for
Yes but they also were elite in getting on base arraez only gets on base with singles which are not as valuable in todays game. I’m not saying he’s a terrible hitter, he’s just not as valuable as his batting average suggests
But he doesn’t get on base at higher level than guys who hit .270. He never strikes out but also never walks. I think you also would like more power out of the DH spot. He hit four home runs last year
I get where you’re coming from and I think we just have a difference on what is important in a hitter. Arraez gets on base about 35% of the time which is about the same as McNeil but McNeil has enough power to hit 15-20 hrs and can play defense at an acceptable level
His WAR last year was a 1. McNeil, who had the worst year of his career last year, for comparison had a 1.6
Because he’s a one dimensional player. He provides only contact hitting. He has no extra base power, he doesn’t walk and is a liability on defense. His OBP for someone with that high an average should be elite and it’s not
He said that if the Mets are looking for a veteran infielder and would likely look at Arraez as a DH or first base option if they miss out on Alonso

With Severino getting 3 for 67 mil, I don’t see Manaea coming back at all. I think he’s gonna get at least 4 years and at least 25 mil AAV
Happy for Severino that he got the security he was looking for. He was great for us last year but someone I was confident in letting go. Mets were never going to go over a year or two for him

Just shows how expensive starting pitching is. This is normal money for a backend starter in free agency. Stearns likes reclamation projects and hopefully he can be this years Manaea or Severino
I don’t mind the Montas signing for the Mets. High upside guy and maybe Stearns thinks he can be improved in the pitching lab. Could be this year’s Severino or Manaea. 17 mil AAV is a lot but pitching is expensive. #LGM #mets #hotstove
The contract Snell got makes me think the Mets won’t go with a big free agent pitcher. I would like if they bring back manaea, sign buehler and trade for another starter like luis Castillo.

Alex Ramirez was non tendered by the Mets. He was once considered a top prospect in the Mets system and never progressed. Good reminder that no prospect should be untouchable in a trade for a known difference maker #mets
I have felt all year that the Mets don’t have a ton of interest in bringing Pete back unless it’s a team friendly deal. I don’t think he fits the type of team Stearns wants to build. I hope I’m wrong but I don’t see him coming back.
I agree there is an anti New York bias. On top of that people will always talk about the payroll being high. You can even see the disrespect with Lindor not being a gold glove finalist. I just think most voters thought the Mets weren’t that good and would get knocked out early
If voting happened after the playoffs, Mendoza would clearly have won. I don’t know how many mangers could have done what he did this year. Happy to have him for years to come. #managaeroftheyear #Mets

I think he’ll value a multi-year deal at a lower AAV for the security and with so many teams having pitching shortages he’ll probably bank on getting it. I agree I would love to have him as a great back end starter
It’s very exciting to hear all the positive news coming from Mets meeting with Soto. Don’t want to be that guy but it all comes out of the Boras camp to drive up the price for everyone else. You should be excited that we are in the conversation but take it with a grain of salt. #mets #hotstove #soto
