I wrote three whole novels largely on my phone. Definitely can be done. But finding a "space" that you only use to write is pretty key. A laptop at a cafe? Notebook on a deck? Typewriter?
Oh man, yes, now we're talking. Or even in These Days terms... something like David Lowery's Green Knight? I think that'd be sweet
(Nevertheless that is a great clip...)
I really want to like the Tempest more, especially as a fantasist, but I honestly just don't think I have seen the performance that blows me away yet? This is a hole in culture that some weirdo surrealist need to fill...
So I have a special place in my heart for the Comedy of Errors, Richard III, Henry V and Titus Andronicus just because of the INCREDIBLE performances of these that I have seen. If the text bore those adaptations, they must be great.
I am mostly a Comedies girl, so mine would be:
1. Much Ado About Nothing
2. As You Like It
3. Midsummer Night's Dream
4. Julius Caesar
5. Twelfth Night
But I also subscribe to the opinion that Shakespeare's plays are not for reading, they are for performing...
GASP yes plz
@theslabpress.bsky.social editor Donna has kindly let me post Vivid Worlds for free on my website during the @bsfa.bsky.social awards process.
It is a finalist for the Short Fiction, and if you would like to consider it, you can find it here. It may get weird.

It might surprise Tim Houston to know that the 14,000 people employed in the arts, culture, and heritage sectors also bring opportunities to grow the province.
If you CAN use LLMs to do your job, then your job is bullshit. If you THINK you can use LLMs to do your job, you aren't very smart.
Folio disappointment #2: editions whose artwork is clearly based on or influenced by the movie based on the book.
Read the gd book and do art based on that!
That's how I feel about Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow. HATED that book, and here it is, in Folio.
I guess these are fine. It's fine. If we can do a hundred billion Chestertons, we can do all of Diana Wynn Jones.
Yah, I'm thrilled to get fancy editions of Dune and Gormenghast, but.... Night Circus?
I use to really love Folio Society eds, but their pivot deep into sff is somehow increasingly offputting to me
I should love this. But it feels...like fan service? Like, I used to be able to pretend there was some kind of "Western Canon" standard here, now it just feels like "books that will sell."

back at it again, folks
People pay for a thing if you have something they don't. The slop bucket is communal. Nobody needs you to dip from it for them.
AI-created products will never sell because if AI can make this for you, it can make it for your audience. Why would they buy it from you?
I don't even care if this is AI or not; it's slick and bland and soulless
Nova Scotia austerity budget eliminates publishing fund.
In a press release from the AMPA reacting to the news, Nimbus Publishing manager Terrilee Bulger called the move βdrastic and devastating.β

Hereβs the full list of Houstonβs cuts Have a look at show your friends. There are pages and pages, everything from R&I for the Brain Repair Centre and Acute and Primary Health Care to Hope Blooms, the Domestic Violence Court, and the NS Apprenticeship Agency Program.
Arts & culture funding in Nova Scotia just got absolutely gutted by our Provincial Government.
Send a letter to your MLA. ESPECIALLY if you live outside the HRM, OH MY GOSH PLEASE DO THIS. Your voices disproportionately matter here.
Protect arts funding in Nova Scotia. halifamous.ca/speak-up
As an NS author, Iβm outraged. Funding for ALL NS book publishers, many museums and others has been stripped. This will have devastating longterm impacts on our communities and culture. Donβt brush this off. Literacy is important to critical thinking skills, problem solving, and community building.
