If we have learned one thing, it's that these types of people have a pathological need to blame others for things they don't like. About others, and especially about themselves.

Frank Miller harbours racist and neo-fascist views. An artist relative once brought this up online with another notable artist we both admire, a friend of Miller's, and who according to my relative took offence at the insinuation, blaming Miller's conduct on his alcoholism.

We can be realistic about these thing, and realism doesn't always mean pessimism. Doesn't have to mean optimism, either. I can't stand self-delusional attitudes, those relentless mantras of unconditional "can-do" and "anything's possible if you only believe" - but few causes are inevitably lost.

Good on them if they do, but conservative and right-wing grassroots exist. We can't fool ourselves into thinking this is a societal problem that will come and go with the Boomer and Gen X generation of parents. (I'm a Gen X-er myself.)
