Needless to say, never watching that lunatic's videos again ๐ฌ

Being realistic though, this will absolutely affect everybody and for the worse. Doesn't mean I can't enjoy seeing hobbyists get a taste of their own medicine though ๐
Fuck AI though.
But getting back to how this relates to GenAI taking software development jobs. A lot of the people I see being the loudest about this are the hobbyists and I can't help but feel a bit of schadenfreude now that they're having to experience what they've helped inflict on non-hobbyists.
The response I've seen towards non-hobbyists from hobbyists has been largely unsympathetic. If anything, they're judgemental, implying laziness and otherwise maintain a "fuck you got mine" mentality. They don't care how exploiting their hobby for their career poisons the well.
After all, why hire the engineer who only works on the clock when you can hire the engineer who works off the clock?
The expectation in the industry is that you're constantly refining your software skills and have recent personal projects to show for it. It's gotten so bad that companies don't seem interested in investing in new talent and allowing them to grow and learn through entry level jobs.
The culture is built around this in that professors left gaps in topics and expected you to either already know or just figure it out yourself. This extends further past academia and into the field itself unfortunately.
Specifically in the software development space, the consequence of this was an unwelcoming environment towards people who didn't have any interest in coding or similar as a hobby.
To be clear, GenAI is bad, companies using it to replace workers is bad, and mass layoffs are bad. HOWEVER. I remembered my own experience getting into Computer Science and how so much of it was geared towards people who did it as a hobby.
I was thinking about a conversation in a work slack channel about GenAI in games and someone brought up how, similar to artistic fields, GenAI is encroaching on the coding side of software development, resulting in job loss.

Still important! Previously I'd hear about the Olympics weeks or months beforehand and I never looked for the info. Happy to hear I haven't missed the opening ceremony tho
Looking pretty good but I personally prefer In The Mouth of Madness over Prince of Darkness ๐
I can't believe the Olympics started today and I haven't heard anything about it. ๐ก

If you're ever considering 'de-googling' your Pixel phone by installing another OS like Graphene, save yourself the stress and DON'T.
It's an extreme pain in the ass to uninstall and something as simple as map GPS requires additional setup that the install guide conveniently leaves out.

How to do needlessly complicated project stuff we haven't had the opportunity to get remotely familiar with and probably won't be able to reliably do for another week or more. (Also project manager over explaining)
