i am begging median democrats to think more than one term in advance. it's not enough to elect the right person once. you cannot defeat fascism through polite discussion, and no ground you cede will be enough to stop them demanding more. you *cannot* tolerate intolerance, it always spreads.

do you think gavin newsom is gonna be the guy to build the new deal-type programs necessary to give working people what they need? to go after purveyors of racist hate as the criminals they are? to set forth a vision of the future beyond this quarter's earnings report? fat fucking chance.

as always, local elections are the ones that really count. passing ballot measures, supporting progressive city councilors, learning what the fuck a "comptroller" is. local movements produce the national politicians who will actually do their jobs. it has to be bottom up, otherwise it's astroturf.

you can't "blue no matter who" this. you can't pray for The Right Guy to come in and save you from having to give a shit. this isn't a popularity poll or debate club. this is real fucking life and you have to learn, you have to engage, you have to put in the WORK to make democracy work for you.
