The red's okay, but it's a great white!
The red's okay, but it's a great white!
Perfection.
Infrastructure Week will never ever end.
For sure we can do better than using reactionary terms in framing this type of critique.
Any representation is better than none, sure, but sincere or not, they’re not showing much commitment to the cause by throwing in 1 or 2 fleeting and easily cut out scenes rather than something more integral.
“Rainbow capitalism” is a really terrible term for it, I agree, but isn’t the left critique that it’s extremely *shallow* representation more than insincere? Continuing the movie example, Disney includes only brief scenes of queer representation that are easily cut out for countries that disapprove.
Saw Airplane! a few months ago at a local theater that does classic showings each week. For what it’s worth, it played to a packed house, and the movie still kills.
What’s winning for if you’re not going to protect the people voting for you? And why would anyone vote for a party that preemptively disavows their support?
Oink oink oink!
Biggest lesson I learned from 2020, Covid, and BLM is that many people see government and/or political power generally as a tool for positive change but a ton of people see only an obstacle or weapon, something to inflict. I really don’t know if the two are reconcilable.
The converse is just as bewildering tbh. Even conceding that these kinds of pitches have emotional appeal, a critical mass of people who absolutely should know better voted for …all this. It’s clear where this stuff leads. Unfathomably stupid and myopic as well as cruel.
Nothing is written. Things can and will get bad. People will also fight back and care for each other in surprising ways. The worst is not inevitable. A lot of the people who want to tear down the world are near-sighted fools who will mess up.
And we will be there to pick up each other's pieces.
